I don't really know how to explain this, but I will try. I just downloaded and install Inernet Explorer 8. What is the thing with the open space around the Address Bar and in my case the Google Search Bar? I can see my desktop through this open space. Is there anyway to eliminate this?

Which Operating System are you using? I'm guessing its Vista or Win 7 which has the Areo Glass look...

Without knowing your System Specifications, especially the OS it may be difficult to advise.

If you are on Windows 7 try turning off Aero. I don't know if that is the cause as I have it turned off anyway on my desktop.

The transparency you describe is not to be expected - I suspect you have a corrupted install.

How did you install - thrrough Windows Update or from here?

Either way round I suggest you uninstall IE 8 and re-install from the direct download.

If that does not resolve the problem I suggest you look for updated graphics drivers.
