I did have my original recovery CD (PC Angel) & I rebooted and performed a recovery...non-destructive where it saved my data files.

After Windows finished rebuilding itself & eventually booted up successfully, I couldn't find my data files. There is a "locked" directory labeled "Recovered D:\" on my C: drive but I can't read anything in it. Even when I try to change the security on it, it won't let me.

Please, if someone knows the answer, help me find or get my data back. Is there some utility out there that will find it?

I don't believe that any reformatting of the disk was done, as the recovery process said it was just reinstalling Windows XP somewhere else...(needed 4 Gig on the HD to do it) confirmed that the HD had enough space and then did it's thing.

Most of my old data was saved under "My Docs ", but some other else where. Can I get this back? Please let me know as soon as possible.

the recovery D:\ partition is from the HP and it is a recovery partition and wont let you in.

No need to worry it is common in HP PCs

For data recovery you can try to run a software called RECUVA

type its name in Google and you will get the first link for it (Dont worry its free)
