    Hi everyone-
    I've been having a problem w/ my Windows XP home edition. It's running slowly, especially when I'm gaming with a friend and using Skype/Webcam. Sometimes the computer freezess. I am unable to bring up msconfig - I get the hour glass for about 5 seconds and then it disappears. I cannot open it in safe mode, either. Someone just did a check and cleaned up a bunch of registry errors. I have 1 gb Ram and have ordered another gb which will be installed this week. What can I do to fix this? Any ideas?
    :confused:

    Sincerely,
    Stardncr22 :)

    This often means you have a virus. Run a virus scan and also run a spyware
    scan with Windows Defender.

    If this all comes up clean - can you open regedit ?

    If so then try Start > Run
    then type in
    sfc /scannow

    which checks and repairs corrupt files.

    If you want to remove items to get load on startup goto to the following folder and delete them

    C:\Documents and Settings\(user)\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

    Delete temporary files
    Goto ->Start-> Run-> type %temp%
    and delete all the files

    Goto ->Start-> Run-> type cleanmgr.exe
    run disk clean up and check all the boxes and it will delete all the temporary files
