Firefox 3.5.5 will not run for me. I keep getting the error that the Firefox process is already running. When I Look at running processes it is not there.

I went to the Mozilla Forum and tried every suggestion they make and nothing works.

    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox+is+already+running+but+is+not+responding?bl=n&s=firefox%20already%20running

One suggestion is to change properties to remove read only flag. Even tho I do that, when I recheck the properties it still says read only.

I also tried the run firefox -refresh option but that cant find Firefox even when I type in the correct path which is in my "all users app data" and not in program files.
when I search on Firefox.exe it is not in program files. I was unable to install it there.

I have checked my PC for Viruses - using latest version of Norton 2010 antivirus.

I had previously posted a question on the Mozilla forum about add-ons
    https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/forum/1/523333#threadId523755

and did try the safe mode and other suggestions re add-ons that the site recommends. My troubles began after this. Problem could be one of the addons but I have no idea how to go about this.
At this point I have no idea what to do.

I am including a copy of HijackThis taken immediately after reboot.

My system almost acts like something is protecting me from doing things but I cannot figure out what. I am considered an administrator.

Firefox had been uninstalled by me. I did try uninstalling and reinstalling it but that not work either.

I use Firefox all the time for everything and truly miss it.

    Thanks

    Following is the Hijack-this log.

Please do not post Hijack this logs on this part of the board, if you feel malware is responsible then read this and post in the Malware and Virus Removal board.

Having said that, is there any reason you haven't upgraded to SP3 yet? Keeping your OS up to date can solve various problems.

Re SP3 every time I do Major updates I run into more problems then not. I check for individual updates and do ones I need. For example I have Windows Media center edition and cannot add some of the updates for that as then media center no longer works, as I have discovered in the past.

Sorry did not know not supposed to post Hijack logs if problem not Malware or virus related. Whatever the problem I am fairly certain it was not malware or a Virus. I believe it is the opposite case of super protections. See my solution (I think) following.
This problem now appears to be solved and I am not sure whether the following solved it or something else. I removed something called Defense Wall HIPS and the problem has disappeared.

I consider this case now resolved. Thanks for your comments. I will be careful in the future re posing Logs.

    No problem,

I'm glad you got it sorted but uninstalling a security program to do so does seem over the top.

I have to admit I'd never heard of Defense Wall HIPS but SoftSphere have a support forum here which may assist you running FF 3.5.5 and HIPS together.
