Once your AV has found a virus(trojan type) and you send it to virus chest(quarantined) do you, at some time, delete it from the quarantine list or do you just leave it there?

Hi born2golf. Normally whenever I have had to remove malware from a system I always delete the files from the quarantine list. The purpose of the quarantine folder is that it holds the infected files where you can restore them if your computer runs into problems later. If your computer is running fine without any problems then you should remove the entries from your quarantine list.

My neighbor had a virus (No AV program) so I went over to help out. Downloaded a free AV and found 499 Various types of virus and Trojan infections. So I put them in the chest and am waiting for them to tell me their system is running ok now and then I'll go over and delete them. It was runnning good when I left so time will tell.
    Thanks for your follow up.

Which in no way guarantees their system is now free from Malware!

If it was my neighbor I'd force them to do a format & clean install. You could also try our Malware experts have a look at the system:

Read this post, then post the requested log(s) in the Malware and Virus Removal forum.

Whoever set it up should be shot as I have come across many errors in just the basic install by local computer repair tech. I spent 3 hours just cleaning up and running Avast to see what was going on.
Not sure their laptop came pre-loaded or if they have recovery disk. They did tell me it was running ok when I left.
I will meet with them today and run Malware and get back to you with what I have discovered. They are seniors and just use the computer for e-mail, excel program and photo's.
