OK, a little fun poll... how long have you gone without using a computer? We know that some of us can't even stay away from it while on holiday, so how about you?

Since I manage my own web server, I'd have to say that I would fall in the 0-24 hours category. But I do on occasion 'survive' with only 60-90 minutes a day :)

I have gone a couple of months a few times when hospitalized. I finally discovered a library that had a public computer within the hospital where my transplant was done. It drove the doctors and nurses crazy not finding me in my room. After a while they automatically checked the library. Now they have wireless access throughout.

Since I work for AT&T I can seldom get away from a PC. Have been forced in the interest of martial harmony to forgo for a day or so. Longest has to be while on a camping trip where I couldn't even get a cellular signal for two weeks. Was a combo of bliss and torture...

The longest that I have gone without using a computer was one week when my family and I went on a vacation to Mexico. Other than that I normally access a computer everday at my house or at school.

I chose "a few weeks." That was on a camping trip/family reunion. My brother and I commiserated with one another about how we missed our machines. Especially since that was the time when Windows 96 was due to come out.

Normally I live most of my life in my computer chair, having an online business and a large family to communicate with, and numerous interests, and being a news junkie .... Fortunately, in that regard, I live alone.

    cheers,
    Pat

At times when traveling I might be off for a week or even a few.
Not addicted enough yet for a laptop, but wouldn't want the weight anyway.

I might be off the computer for a week or a few days, but under duress! Even when my internet service was down for nearly 2 weeks once, I took my laptop up our driveway near the neighbor's house and tapped into theirs twice a day! It's my lifeline! I can't stand to be without it for long. I deal with it if I go on a trip and there is no internet service, but I often will find some way to connect, even if it means going somewhere that has service once in a while. I take my laptop with me whenever I travel.

I'm a computer addict. Can't seem to get away from it for no longer than 30 minutes while awake. When I wake up at night, I always check my three email boxes. And I manually check for updates every day on two (dual boot) laptops and my PC.

Only on holidays when I shut down all electrics. Then when I return and switch everything back on, I have around 160 odd emails to checkout. The wife sometimes will use an internet cafe while we're on holiday, but I will text if necessary. Neil.

i am doing my PhD online, so computer access is very important to me...i am also going through some debilitating health issues these days that cause me to remain housebound/bedbound many days, so my computer is my lifeline...I have 3 laptops, use all three for different things...longest i have gone without is a few days...i am not addicted to my computer but sure enjoy having the opportunity to access its riches...

Although the computer is on every day I can go a few days without using it. It's kinda like the radio on in the background even though you're not listening to it.

Well! 24 hours is my hope in break downs or loss of an essential file in
    Windows7.
However, what happens on a computer crashing - no longer able to make contact online with your computer's Support Team or anyone for that matter, and as some computer experts can charge £100 per hour for a call out or you live miles away from the nearest centre - then what happens?

Most libraries give you free internet access, so I'd suggest posting here. :D

When I go on vacation I do find that I am away from a computer for the a short number of days. However, since we have had a laptop, that time may lessen. Also, taking classes online reduces that chance.
Otherwise, I would fall under the 0-24 hour category.
