Hi ppeetteerr. If you don't mind me asking why do you need a registry cleaner? Are you having a specific problem with your computer that you think a registry cleaner will fix?

There are many other ways of increasing your computers performance and fixing computer problems without having to resort to so called computer optimizers and registry cleaners that claim they can speed up and repair your computer.

Besides, most of the system optimizers claim that they can tweak hidden settings in your system when in reality most of those tweaks and optimizations you can do yourself. I would stay away from these types of programs since they offer no increase in your computers performance and in some cases they can even damage your computer and cause it to become unbootable.

However if you are aware of the risks and dangers of using a registry cleaner then you can try Regseeker.

    Use at your own risk!

DITTO - one wrong step means you've turned your pc into a boat anchor. And if its a laptop - it won't even work as a boat anchor:eek:

    Hello,
Thanks for the advice. My laptop is running very slow, I have done Disk Clean-up, Defrag, Adaware scan. I am using Norton anti virus. Can you advise (in detail as I am not that pc literate) what steps to take to speed up my machine,
    regards

Did it get slow over night?
What is the history behind the problem?
I would get rid of Adaware and get SuperAntiSpyware.

I would also remove Norton since that program alone is probably the main reason why your computer is slow. Also how much RAM and what processor do you have? To find this information click Start< Right click My Computer and click properties. Under the general tab it will tell you what processor and the amount of RAM your computer has installed.

I have put my system details in the User CP. My PC has been getting slower gradually over the past year but seems worse recently, programmes seem to take a long time to open

Your hardware seems adequate. I would try this, click Start< Control Panel< Uninstall a program and remove any programs that you don't use including Norton Antivirus. Also how many processes do you have running in Task Manager?

Hello, I haven't uninstalled Norton Antivirus yet but on checking I have 65 processes running. I have Norton Antivirus and Norton Internet Security (all came pre-installed as part of the package), can you guys advise any better Antivirus and internet security programmes (I also have Norton Antivirus on another pc and it does seem to slow things up)

That's quite a few. My Vista with nothing additionally installed shows 41 running. Since you only have 1GB of RAM, I suggest you try removing some running background processes.

I checked mine and with 2 windows open I have 25 processes and 44% memory usage of 6Gb... (although only 4Gb might be usable) and I have a bunch of stuff installed!

one place to start is with start-up application: in the run window (win key + R; or win orb + run... (bottom right)) type msconfig; click continue to UAC prompt; go to startup tab and choose which applications you don't want starting up

in services tab (Black Viper recommend to use services.msc (type fron the run window)) but I like the feature at the bottom: check "hide all Microsoft services" then you can see third party services you may not be using.

services.msc as a description next to the service which is very helpful.

this as been recommended by another member:

    http://www.blackviper.com/WinVista/servicecfg.htm

I'm still going through it myself, but my machine is purring now so I'm not inclined to "mess" with it yet...
