I have tried over and over again to get rid of whatever is causing my computer to freeze and run very slow. But it seems whatever I do just makes things worse. I have been getting windows updates that keep installing over and over. I have tried uninstalling the updates but it seems like they keep coming back (Security updates for windows xp) I click on windows xp service pack 2 under details and all these updates come up. My computer is very slow, and sometimes when I open the Internet browser it says
"Internet explorer cannot open web page" but this is only for some web pages. I was thinking of just cleaning out my hard drive and starting over, but I have never done this before so I want your guys advice first? Please help.

    Thank you
    -Lulu

If you want, go to Windows Update site.
Be best probably, to install SP3.
Also, what type of security programs(Anti-virus,firewall, and anti-spyware) are you using?
How much RAM(memory) do you have?
What all is on your Startup list?

Hi Lulu. The main reason your computer is running so slow is because you only have 256 MB of RAM installed. This is the bare minimum amount of RAM that Windows XP will even run on. Go to Crucial.com and run their memory scanner. It will tell you what kind of RAM your computer has and how much it can support. I would suggest that you buy more RAM for your computer, preferably you should get your computer up 1 GB of RAM or more. You will see a huge difference in your computers performance by installing more RAM. Also going to Start< Control Panel< Add/Remove programs and uninstalling any programs that you don't use would help with speeding up your computer as well.

Since you getting a lot of Windows Updates I would install Service Pack 3 which will get your computer updated.

Also according to the model of your motherboard your computer only supports a maximum of 512 MB of RAM total. Since you have one memory slot available I would buy another 256 MB of RAM for your computer so you could bring up your RAM from 256 MB to 512 MB.
