Hey, I've reloaded OS's in the past, but it's been years. I thought I could remember how to do it, but was wrong. Anyhow, I tried to reload xp sp3 because I had a virus I couldn't get ride of. When I did, I did it wrong. I copied over the existing OS. I then realized it and looked up the proper steps and tried again. Now my computer won't recognize my monitor's driver or really any driver for that matter. It won't let me run my att dsl set up disk. I am looking at a 4 bit screen and can't seem to figure out what to do. Am I done for? Do I need to try a fresh reload again or what?

Hi tauston1, Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

You need to install the drivers for your motherboard chipset as well as your gaphics and sound drivers. Without knowing what your system specs are I won't be able to help you very much.

With that in mind please enter your System Details. It helps us in answering your questions.

Before I tryed the reload. I saved my driver folder on a jump drive. I've downloaded the driver folder onto my c drive now. I've looked into the chip set folder, but their are no exe files. Any suggestions?

I think your download is located here. If you downloaded the driver already is it in a zip folder? If it is have extracted the contents of the folder? If theres no setup.exe file then I don't know what else to suggest.

You can't just move the driver folder over. Drivers have to be installed. Download them again, I haven't checked Evan's link but it may be the correct source.

I downloaded the driver from that site. Everything is acting like it should now. Thank you both.

Ok, my computer froze up last night. I turned it off. Now it won't come back on. I can hear the hard drive coming up. I've tried a different monitor and cord. I plan on checking to make sure I have the right amount of voltage coming out of my power supply. After that I'm not sure what to check next. I just have a feeling that my mother board is toast. It doesn't look like it or anything. I'm just guessing. Any ideas?

In your situation, I would test the HDD by hooking it up as slave to a different computer. If it can be read by the other system, the HDD is OK and a possible cause is off the list.
