I don't remember the exact sequence of letters but it was a program that you used to allow or forbid a website and it had a symbol in the lower right of the screen showing that it was active.
It contained those letters but I am not sure of the order.
I grew to love this program.

After doing Windows update and upgrading from IE6 to IE7 the program disappeared and I have searched all over for it...
Does anyone here know what I am talking about?
If anyone can help me find this I would be very grateful as I have searched for over an hour without success...
TIA for any help!

I just thought of the name of the program...it is Noscript and has a redcircle with a diagonal redline (don't allow line) crossing an S.

That is the symbol used by more than 1 browser utility and is used by the Google "pop-up blocker" for one.

Then there is the "Smart Screen Filter" in the new IE8 which allows you to report bad sites, but the symbol you refer to I think was replaced and the Internet Security settings are now quickly accessed via the [ "World Globe Icon" Internet ] on the Status Bar (bottom) or setup via the Tools - SmartScreen Filter menu.

These were the Restricted Sites and also used that symbol. i.e. when you went to a bad / restricted site, the symbol appeared.

I found the right site and downloaded it again.
It is called NoScript and when you click 'download' it is automatically installed right in your browser.
Thanks for your responses...I just needed to get this very old brain working this AM...LOL

I am using it for Seamonkey. If I click on the download it is automatically installed in my browser. I imagine it will do the same for Firefox if you use it.
Interestingly, it does not install in IE but only in Mozilla products.

Can I just clarify a couple of points please yankee1620,

1. The "noscript" addon works in Firefox and Thunderbird ONLY ?
2. The addon does not work in IE8 ?
3. Did the addon ever work in any IE6 or IE7 ?
4. The noscrip addon prevents the automatic download of files and prevents other scripts from automatically executing, unless through the noscrip addon interface you give it permission ?
5. The symbol looks like the (\) (fully circled) and has a cap S with a snake head ?
6. And the nfts or nfst? part you were looking for was actually "NoScript" ?
Is that about it ?

Would be handy if it could be hidden, and then used as a tool to prevent installations of programs from the web by unauthorized Users!

Thank you “TonyY”,

My detailed explanation was more addressed to the Critique who posted a “Negative” report against my reputation on the 19th October 2009 00:21 “Seems to pose suggestions/questions without fully reading the original question.”

I have had a couple of others, possibly by the same person, who must have limited experience and also does not understand or realise the ramifications that as a consequence can be related to the question asked in a post.

Take the above mentioned post “nfts or nfst?”, the suggested alpha letters of which there are only 4 have a possible permutation (number of possible letter combination) of 24 meaning that the letters can be arranges in 24 different ways.

For those that are interested in this, here is a link for such a calculator - http://www.mathsisfun.com/combinatorics/combinations-permutations-calculator.html

The result of which is: (use the List Items to do this)
“Only the first 'n' (4) items will be used: {n,f,t,s}
Permutations without repetition (n=4, r=4)
{n,f,t,s} {n,f,s,t} {n,t,f,s} {n,t,s,f} {n,s,f,t} {n,s,t,f} {f,n,t,s} {f,n,s,t} {f,t,n,s} {f,t,s,n} {f,s,n,t} {f,s,t,n} {t,n,f,s} {t,n,s,f} {t,f,n,s} {t,f,s,n} {t,s,n,f} {t,s,f,n} {s,n,f,t} {s,n,t,f} {s,f,n,t} {s,f,t,n} {s,t,n,f} {s,t,f,n}”

In the result the logical result that may apply is “NTFS” which I suggested in a further question to clarify what “yanke1620” was looking for. It should be noted that the symbol described is used by Windows in the “Restricted Sites” under “Internet Security Properties” and can be accessed via the [ (World Globe icon) Internet ] item at the bottom of the Status Bar which is the position “yanke1620” described and with different occurrences can display the icon he referred to, and also restricts the access.

My last post, http://www.windowsbbs.com/general-discussions/87938-nfts-nfst.html#post480529 explained the result of what it actually was and what it did and did not do, thanks I understand what that was I think and also downloaded it to test it so that I was fully informed!

Now as to the “Negative” comment: If, from the 1st vague question the Reputation Critique was able to determine that it was the “NoScript” that “yanke1620” was looking for, than why did this “Wisenheimer” not contribute to the post instead of criticising others who try to help !!??

Looking at the result of “noscript” only 3 of the original alpha letters are actually contained in the Subject line of the original post, that referred to the question contained therein, n,s and t, and no “f”.

Yet anyone can post a negative remark which goes against ones reputation and we have no course of reply, does not seem ethical, nor in the spirit of this Forum, where an arbitrary judgement can be made without redress.

One other such a negative response was in relation to the “Windows Explorer not... 16th October 2009 21:44 Please note the user is speaking about Windows Explorer, not Internet Explorer.” The rebuff of this I posted on the Topic.

Still one other, I sent to Admin in a PM, to which I have not had a reply, this one is controversial in the manner in which the posters question can be interpreted, yet I tend to believe that a self appointed “Moderator and Critique” may be abusing the reason why we have the ability “Add to (Members) Reputation” option.

"BENE DICTUM, BENEDICTE ! "
"If any pilgrim monk comes from distant parts, with wish to dwell in the monastery, and will be content with the custom which he finds in the place, does not perchance by his lavishness disturb the monastery, but is simply content with what he finds, he shall be received for as long a time as he desires.
If, indeed he finds fault with anything, or exposes it reasonably, and with humility of charity, the abbot shall discuss it prudently, less perchance God had sent him for this very thing. But, if he have been found gossipy and contumacious in the time of his sojourn, as guest, not only ought he not be joined to the body of the monastery, but also it shall be said to him, honestly, that he must depart.
If he does not go, let two stout monks in the name of God explain the matter to him. "

Just one little thing that is of no importance really, but is to me...
I see you refer to me as 'he'. Of course you have no way of knowing that I am not now, nor have I ever been a man. LOL
I am just a dumb, very old woman, close to 80 years.
I ask dumb questions because, being self taught, I am not computer knowledeable to any great degree. I learned by trial and error and with a lot of help from the patient and kind people on this forum. BBS is the best!

G'Day "yankee1620 ",

Good one! I stand to be corrected.

Although the term Yankee is mostly interpreted, due to military exposure, to a Male Soldier, I do not mind being corrected in this instance,

My Dad is 90. my eldest son is 48, my daughter is 38, my kid sister is 64 and I'm 29 - ha ha

And as you say, the term does apply to both genders.

Yankee - From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The term Yankee, sometimes abbreviated to Yank, has a few related meanings, often referring to someone either of general United States origin or more specifically, within the US, to people of Northern origin or heritage. Its meaning has varied over time. Originally the term referred to residents of New England as used by Mark Twain in A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. During and after the American Civil War its meaning expanded to include any Northerner or resident of the states formerly on the Union side of the war, and included anyone from the Northeast (New England, Mid-Atlantic, and upper Great Lakes states). After the Civil War the term gradually reverted to its earlier meaning of New Englander,[1]
Outside the United States, Yank or Yankee is a slang term, sometimes but not always derogatory, for any U.S. citizen.

BTW yanke1620. the "BENE DICTUM, BENEDICTE !" was written by a BENEDICT Monk and not me, and I was being polite in my previous post.
