Well I have enjoyed Windows 7 for a brief 3 weeks. While working on homework my computer went haywire. Not it runs really slow or doesn't fully boot at all.

It keeps saying Windows Explorer "not responding" and then it restarts, over and over again.

In safe mode I noticed under the Device Manager that the Conumser IR Device is not working properly.

Any suggestions? I'm at a loss.

    I have a HP Pavilion Entertainment laptop w/ AMD Tuiron X2 64

    Any help is appreciated.....

    G'Day Lacynic,

I have noticed this problem myself with IE 8 in windows 7, although the "not responding" error message is not restricted to W7 and I have noticed this on all MS OS's with IE8 installed, i.e. on XP all versions, Vista all versions, Server 2008 and of course W7.

Hence we use Firefox, better and more secure.

However you could try this, By: Chris Pirillo

Get Google Chrome Frame and information and Open Source codes: http://code.google.com/chrome/chromeframe/

and install the plugin, and put the relevant codes on any web site you own.

It seems to have improved the IE 8 performance and less error messages.

The article hyperlink in "Evan Omo" post is a good one, however there are some pitfalls in the "To combat any spyware that might lurk on your machine" section where these programs like SpyBot and Ad-Aware with the latest versions, and with the default installation, install resident programs that are not compatible with each other and will also cause conflicts with any other Internet Security Suite, like Kaspersky, or BitDefender or Symantec.

Also be cautious of the 'OnLine" scanners, which in some instances will bomb out because of the conflicts I have mentioned above or, most will only run with IE and not run in any other browser.

For the benefit of some members on this forum.

Just to clear the mater up. We clearly understood that your post referred to Windows Explorer whereas my reply seemed as though I had mistaken this to be Internet Explorer, which is not the case !

The occurrence of Windows Explorer crashing has occurred more frequently since the installation of Internet Explorer 8 on all Windows operating systems. We did not have this occur with IE 7 installed.

Our observations is very clear and understood your original post and error and our comment was specifically referring to the instances when or what may have contributed to the sudden more frequent crashes or "Not responding" pop-up messages.

We then look for any suggested fixes for either, and the IE fix for whatever reason has minimized this Windows Explorer "not responding" pop-up.

We may not be clear as to the integrated behavior of the Microsoft software, but the way things are going with Microsoft, anything is possible.

Since installing the IE8 patch we recommended to you, the only time Windows Explorer seems to come up with the "not responding" pop-up is when we force a "Log Off" or "Restart" using the Task Manager in XP if the system appears not to respond to mouse actions, which when pressing Ctrl / Alt / Del will bring up the Task Manager (usually also reactivating the mouse) and we then select to "log off" or "restart" with the system responding very slowly and then brings up the Windows Explorer not responding pop-up error message.

Vista and Windows 7 have not had the Windows Explorer error since we installed the IE 8 patch.

If the matter as to what my reply meant or suggested was not clear to some, then this will make it clear !!

Yes it did both 1. Improved the performance of IE8 and 2. Stopped the pop-up error messages in while using Windows Explorer !! We did have it occur twice since on W7 however not as previously every 15 or so minutes while performing large file transfers or copy operations.

The next thing is that someone will tell me that IE and WE have nothing to do with each other, if you totally believe this ?!

"With the release of Windows Vista & Server 2008 and Windows Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP, Internet Explorer is no longer integrated with Windows Explorer. Unlike older versions, Windows Explorer does not host Internet Explorer controls in its own process, rather it launches a new process when necessary. In Windows Vista and Server 2008 (and in Windows XP as well if IE7 is installed), Windows Explorer no longer displays web pages, and IE7 does not support use as a file manager, although one will separately launch the other as necessary. "

I like the last bit, " .....although one will separately launch the other as necessary." I wonder if the team that worked on IE8 knew this?

    - and we still can in fact, try this, Open Internet Explorer and type: C:\Documents and Settings\(Replace this with User name)\My Documents - and press enter

Oh, and yes, you guessed it. You can also type a web URL into the Windows Explorer address box, try http://www.microsoft.com/genuine and hit Enter to go there. You know, just in case you're busy looking at files and feel the need to get on the web really quick.

Good they will separately launch the other, but they are separate and have nothing to do with each other and are not integrated in anyway, "Believe it or Not" just like on Ripley's.

Yeah, it's a little confusing, but then it wouldn't be a Microsoft product if it wasn't...
