I have had this problem before, recieved a solution, but can't seem to find it now. My volume icon has disappeared from the taskbar. I have gone to the notification window and the place to check to put the icon on is gray and won't let me do it.

The last time there was a simple solution. Hopefully someone knows what that is.

Thanks so much for any help.
    Susan

Down in the lower right hand corner where the icons are in the area called the Systray.

No, there is no < on the right hand systray. there is >> on the left hand side, but it doesn't have anything that has to do with the volume.

Right-click the Taskbar, select Properties > Notification Area and check Volume under System icons.

Try rebooting and see if that works.

Also, please enter your System Details. It helps us in answering your questions!

Evan, thanks for the the link. I really thought that was going to work. I tried the method three. Restarted, but that didn't work. so I went to the part to do it manually. I got all the way through to "explorer ", and what they say is listed is not. So that didn't work either. ..............Arie, I did reboot, it's still not there. I am using an HP Pavilion dv7-1245dx entertainment notebook. Windows Vista. Is that the information you needed?

I went back in just to check and realized that the grayed out area was not gray anymore. So I checked it and all is right with the world again. Don't know why I didn't think to check that after doing the first step.

    Thanks for helping, guys..............susan
