Have a look in Event Viewer & see if there are any errors listed around the time that Windows 'freezes'.

To open Event Viewer, go to Start > Run and type eventvwr.msc, click OK.

Check your Application and System logs for errors.

You can double click on any error for more details, and there is also a button to copy the error to your clipboard for easy copying & pasting.

Does Windows also freeze when you run in Safe mode?

    1. As I wrote above: To open Event Viewer, go to Start > Run and type eventvwr.msc, click OK.

Check your Application and System logs for errors.

    2. So what's stopping you from trying?

Well, when was the last time you formatted & did a clean install? It may be time for one.

That's way to old! FF is at 3.5.3 these days. I suggest updating your software, drivers & OS.

Well, I assume you read this too:

I don't have any suggestions, 'hanging' can be hard to track down. Do you run Anti-Virus, Anti-Malware software & have a firewall?

No. The instructions are quite clear and detailed and shouldn't be hard to follow.
