Not sure what this has to do with; however, when I first start up my computer, I get this message: "instruction at 0x7c91b21a referenced memory at 0x00000010. The memory could not be written. "
My OS is Windows XP, Home Edition. This has been an ongoing problem for the past 2 weeks, since I moved and had my internet service re-activated @ my new address. I am not sure if it is virus related or not.:(

Hi JTee. I would start by testing your memory (RAM). Run Memtest86.

Please note: Memory checking programs are not adequate because they don't test the memory the way that Windows uses it. Most, if not all, memory checkers use read/write cycles when scanning memory. Since Windows is executing code from the memory, it uses execute cycles. Execute cycles are physically different from read/write cycles and are more vulnerable to parity errors. It is possible for memory checking programs to find parity errors if the memory is extremely faulty.

Thank you Evan. To run Memtest86, I clicked on start, then run & typed it in the Command field; I received the message that Memtest86 could not be found. Is that what I was to do?

I strongly suggest we first establish if your computer is Malware free. Please follow the instructions I provided above.

Your Welcome Jtee. I wasn't aware that this may be a malware issue but since Arie has now made that very clear that it is a malware issue, you should make sure your system is free of malware.

Once that is resolved, should I repond to this and follow the same process/4 steps as I did with the one that is currently active?

When the other thread is resolved there's a 99% chance this will be resolved too, as that error message is usually indicative of Malware.
