Returned from vacation and have been unable to access the internet. I have an excellent signal and am connected but cannot get an access. I called my DSL provider and they would not help me because I have a router. I have a desktop and netbook which get acess but my laptop gets nothing. It's also affecting the printing. Need some help.

    Thanks,
    Dee

Run this at a command prompt:
    Code:
    ipconfig /all > ipconfig.txt
and post the contents of the file ipconfig.txt

Please enter your System Details. It helps us in answering your questions!

Thanks Airie for responding so promptly. Sorry about the systems info, I know better. I have Windows XP on Dell Inspiron Laptop withI wireless internet. I tried following your directions but failed but all was not lost did find that my ethernet card has been disabled and I assume this is my problem Could not copy and paste what came up. I went through cmd in RUN and it would only allow me to enter ipconfig. I could not find a command function.

    Look here ....

    C:\ipconfig.txt

    C:\Documents and Settings\PeteC\ipconfig.txt

depending on which prompt you ran it from, i.e. C:\ _ or C:\Documents and Settings\Username\ _ ( _ is the flashing cursor)

Hey Pete , good to talk to you again. I can't get to the C:\.
It flashes on the docs and settings. Remember I can't find a command function except through RUN on my machine.

Start > Run > type in cmd > Enter

A command window opens with the flashing cursor at the end of ....

    C:\Documents and Settings\Username>

    Copy ipconfig /all > ipconfig.txt from here

Return to the Command window - right click > Paste followed by Enter

    ipconfig.txt here .....

    C:\Documents and Settings\Username\ipconfig.txt

Alternatively at the C:\Documents and Settings\Username> prompt type cd\ > Enter

Paste the ipconfig command at the C:> prompt > Enter and the text file will be here ....

    C:\ipconfig.txt

    Problems with this?

That's telling me that your LAN card and wireless cards are both disconnected, but I am no expert in this field :(

The restore DID NOT solve my problem. It is no better, I cannot access the internet at all. I checked device manager but my ethernet card is not listed. Any suggestions?

    I am confused ....
That's rather problematic on a laptop as it is essentially built in - even if the drivers have gone AWOL Device Manager should see the card albeit with a flagged warning. Could be that the card has failed - If you can't see it there is little else to suggest.
