laptop gps monitor

Running Delorme gps on a 15" dell laptop , looking for a smaller monitor i can tie to the dell & use it as a slave & have smaller screen in front seat(esp on rental cars) around a 10" size. can be usb or serial connect

Any suggestion would be apprecited

 

Sounds like a lot of wires to me. For what its worth, I've run a wireless bluetooth GPS reciever to my laptop and have a laptop car mount in my Toyota 4Runner. Can run the same to an HP PDA. Have also set up the capability to print to a rear mounted printer via bluetooth. This setup uses two power inverters - one under the passenger seat for the laptop and one in the back for the printer.

My suggestion would be to purchase a Netbook with Bluetooth capability and scrap the concept of a secondary monitor. As an alternative, buy a Garmin - that's the way I've gone. I also cancelled my Verizon wireless WAN card because the thrill was gone and the monthly bill kept coming. Haven't used my laptop in the car for months.

Originally set this up after a hurricane left us without power for 3+ weeks but found it wasn't really worth the trouble or the expense. When and if this happens again, I'm reliant upon an IPhone and my trusty Garmin, which is hard to beat.
