    In order to change the boot order on my computer I have to press F5 to disable/change a setting however pressing F5 has no effect.

    Windows XP Pro (Compaq Evo)

    If you're using a USB keyboard - try a PS2 board.
    Then if you get into the BIOS look for the option to Enable legacy USB devices.

    I am already using a PS2 keyboard. I have looked in the BIOS and can only find under PCI devices two listings:
    Compaq USB controller IRQ11
    Compaq USB controller IRQ10

    So, the F5 key is the SAVE key? Are you sure?

    You are in the wrong place :) Look for a Boot tab in BIOS.

    We encourage all members to complete their System Specifications which help us to help you :) Then, maybe , we can take a look at the manual and help you further.

    The F5 key is the designated key to change options for boot order. The F5 key works okay if I need to refresh a web page.
    In BIOS the options regarding booting are as follows:

    Tab: Security> Network Service Boot

    Tab: Storage> Boot order

    Tab: Advanced> Power-on Options> Post mode: Quick Boot

    When you click on Boot Order do you have the option to change?

    The option to change in boot order is:

    F5= Enable/Disable; F10= Accept

    Hmm - typical Compaq - a crippled BIOS :(

    Indeed, I'm fairly sure even Dell don't cripple it that badly, though I'll never work out why they don't have temperature readings in the BIOS, what with sensors everywhere (from came with the PC, the CPU has 3, though 1 is always wrong, the MCP has 1, the 'board has 1, and so does the montior). :p
