-I have a bizarre problem which prevents my use of just one specific interactive website (a family history one, for which I have all cookies permitted on my Vista SP1 system)- and it has done so probably since I updated from IE6 to IE7, and now to IE8.

-When I try navigating around the site's pages, the transitions almost always fail to complete - whether I am logged in or not. Their support staff have detected that while a page is loading, something on my PC redials a slightly altered URL - which prevents their servers from delivering any page at all. They identified interference from add-ons as the most likely cause - but I have checked that the problem remains when all add-ons are temporarily disabled.

-I am assured by the site that no user has ever reported this problem before, so it cannot be a problem at their end. In principle, I suppose that some kind of malware might cause my computer to have such problems with a single website only - but a range of security programs have failed to pick anything up.

-Does anyone have any idea about possible causes and solutions?
    Thanks, IANV

I don’t know exactly what you’ve tried and I’m not hugely confident with these, but give them a try:

    1. Go to Internet Options > Advanced Tab > scroll down to the Security section and uncheck ‘Check for server certificate revocation‘. Restart IE, if it doesn’t solve the problem, try unchecking these two; ‘Check for publisher's certificate revocation’ and ‘Enable Integrated Windows Authentication‘. It’s unlikely but make a note of the original settings just in case things get worse.
    2. It could be the result of an overzealous security setting. Go to Control Panel > Classic View > Internet Options > Advanced Tab scroll down to the Security section for ‘Enable memory protection to help mitigate online attacks’. If it is ticked, remove the tick from it. Also, look at Internet Options > Security Tab and uncheck the box that says ‘Enable Protected Mode‘.
    3. Reset Internet Explorer settings, i.e. Internet Options > Advanced Tab and click 'Reset' at the bottom. Also in the Advanced Tab, scroll down to Enable third-party browser extensions and remove the tick > Apply > OK, etc.
    4. Make sure the website is not blocked, go to IE > Tools > Pop-up Blocker > Settings.
    5. Check the Hosts file for blocking.
    6. If it’s present, try clicking the Compatibility icon between the Address Bar and the Refresh icon.

    no joy

Thanks to BurrWalnut for suggestions. I more or less tried them - without any effect. One thing I could not do was to untick "˜Enable memory protection to help mitigate online attacks’ in Internet Options - the existing tick was greyed out and refused to be changed. Could this have some significance perhaps?
Thanks also for broni's proposed security checks - I will go through that process when I can find time.

It still seems very odd to me that problems with internet settings or with malware could yield a problem affecting just my own PC and just a single internet site - especially as sometimes a page I am trying to reach does load, but ludicrously slowly (maybe hours).
