I have suddenly been having problems with my HP Pavilion a6200n Desktop PC computer, when I connect my Kodak camera it is no longer recognizing it (used to simply just upload my pics) and tries to install drivers that should already be there and fails. Also, my speakers just up and stopped working today and I've never had trouble with them (everything is connected same way as always, they are simply connected to the OUT on the built in sound card).

In any event, I was on the phone with support with HP for hours un/in-stalling the SW etc.. etc.. and got nothing accomplished. SO we decided I should try updating to SP2 but I can't seem to find a Vista SP2 upgrade on the MS site? Is there one and if so does someone have a link to it? I tried using windows update but all it shows to install is "Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB954430) ". When I choose that it installs it but then when I reboot it is there to install yet again, as if it never did.

In any even,t where can I get the SP2 update to try installing it to see if it fixes these issues?

    Thx,

I know the camera is compatible because it worked fine for the longest time, just now after some windows updates it isn't being recognized for whatever reason and my sound is broken too. Wasted all kinds of time with HP support and all they seem to want to do is reinstall my Kodak software 5000 times .. I mean if it doesn't work after the first uninstall/reinstall WHAT makes them think trying it over and over will help. Bunch of pinheads there it seems.. They say it's a Kodak issue and Kodak says it's an HP issue. When in fact it looks like a windows issue from updates but you can't get any windows support without giving up your firstborn. Hurray for friggin updates

Hoping the SP2 'update' fixes this and doesn't break more instead :(

I may go back to the Abacus.

Have you tried uninstalling Kodak EasyShare program and reinstall it? My system is close to yours and I have had no problems with it. I use Kodak Easy Share for my photo's with Kodak camera. You probably have done this but just a thought!

Sorry Mike, I know i read that but my brain was elsewhere. Hopefully SP2 will fix it. I'm pretty sure MS provides free support for SP2.

I lost my sound after SP2 (realtek). I had to update realtek drivers and is worked fine.

    Good luck

Where did you get the Realtek drivers because the ones I got from the HP site (and ALL their drivers it seems) ALWAYS gives the error "If (OSLangDec== "1028" || OSLangDec== "2052" || OSLangDec== "3076 ") Then" and then fails the install.

er.. you're kidding right? I specifically mentioned above "Wasted all kinds of time with HP support and all they seem to want to do is reinstall my Kodak software 5000 times .. I mean if it doesn't work after the first uninstall/reinstall WHAT makes them think trying it over and over will help." .. I uninstalled and reinstalled it COUNTLESS times with various of their clueless support team knowing it would solve nothing.

Mike, I am not sure where I got them....either from HP or RealTek. I don't have the file anymore so i can't search its name to see if I get any hits.

I would try your MB manufacturer first for chipset drivers and then Realtek. I'd use HP as a last resort since I think their drivers are old.

My HP is so messed up I can't download / update / access programs ... including Internet Explorer at this moment.

Could it be IE 8???? I'm just asking...

Getting multiple (Not Responding) boxes. :(

Same issues as above. Computer wants to install an update I've already installed, fails when attempting SP2, lost access to QuickBooks...

Tried to re-install QB and it failed...

HOWEVER QuickBooks suggests that it's re-install problem "is probably caused by a damaged component of Microsoft Visual C++. "

Does this help anybody in a possible diagnoses of what is happening???

    --------------------------

    Update:

Finally have gone backwards (System Restore) to this morning's updates (downloaded yesterday) so Internet Explorer is finally working again. Now I have 11 "Important" updates and no sign of SP2, so I know it's waiting until I do these updates... again... and then I'll probably have the same problem (no Internet Explorer access...).

Seriously... does anybody have any ideas? Is it just an HP issue???

Did you try this link I'd go for the executable about halfway down the list. That's the newest driver I can find. I am not sure who makes you MB. My HP Pavilion's MB is made by Asus. I did some googling but couldn't find anything definitive on your error message. Maybe someone following this thread will chime in and help.

    Mitch

I found out the MB ecs mcp61pm hm in your system is made by Elite Group but I couldn't find the MB on their site.

Further update (trying to help others with similar issues...)

I still can't get QB to "fix" itself... but at this moment that is the least of my problems.

Besides my HP Vista desktop that is not working correctly, I have a 2nd HP desktop (running XP) and it is not working correctly, either. Currently it gets stuck trying to auto-update (ZoneAlarm and Windows Update) and won't budge.

My laptop (a Toshiba, which I am using currently) and another desktop (Gateway) are working fine as I type.

    Does anyone have any ideas????

I just TRIED to do a System Restore on the Vista computer back to June 1st, which just happens to be prior to a couple of HP updates and updating to Internet Explorer 8. The computer finally got around to telling me THIS TIME that System Restore did not complete successfully (unspecified error). I am now trying a System Restore point dated June 5th, which updated HP Product Assistant. I'll let you know what happens......

    --------------------------------------

Oh oh.... this is not good...

Had to turn off the Vista computer via the power switch. It got stuck. Bad.

I'm going to try and save as much info as I can to my other computers. I think we're toast. Unless someone has any ideas...........

That PC does indeed sound confused.

As to the camera, what sort of Kodak do you use? My EasyShare C813 works with no problems with SP2.

To fix the PC, a reformat should *hopefully* fix the problems. If you can't get the PC to load a Vista disc, or some other such program to reformat the hard drive, try reformatting it in one of your other PCs. If that fails, you've got a hard drive problem. If it doesn't, then it points to problems with the other PC.

It's an EasyShare C513, always used to connect and upload fine and Ive been on SP21 for a while. Tried it last week and now vista constantly tries to install the driver and fails with message "Failed ". Dealt with Kodak and HP support and uninstalled/reinstalled diff versions of kodak s/w still no luck uploading pics now.

Tried to update to SP2 from this site http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...d5-f907-4406-9012-a5c3199ea2b3&displaylang=en
BUT the install gives me an error too (Ive stopped all virus checkers, killed their processes, and disabled windows firewall, still no luck).

I get the following error (and I'm now trying to troubleshoot via the link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947366 that says to see more about issue):

    SP2 update install error

By the sound of things, although I maybe wrong, your model is a lower in-the-range version of mine, and thus should work. I haven't updated my EasyShare software for SP2. As far as I can tell, Kodak are right in that it isn't their problem.

Have you actually scanned for viruses? A scan to check for corruption in the registry might also be a good idea.

As I said before, have you tried a registry scan to check for corruption, or a virus scan?

I scan for viruses all the time. As for a registry scan, do you mean using a
3rd party product? I'm leary of those when it comes to the registry, can do more harm than good.

I'm fairly sure there's something that does that, that is part of Windows... I may be wrong though.
