I am thinking about replacing Vonage with MagicJack. Has anyone had any experience with MagicJack?

I have read it installs adware on the system.

    Is it worth it?

First off... Vontage is $24 per month every month... Magicjack is $19 for the hardware and $19 per year for your phone service.. and so far only $19 to renew each year.. That said.. there are some drawbacks & flaws with Magicjack, but still worth the saving if your willing to put up with miscellaneous problems with Magicjack. First off your Windows based computer must be running to use Magicjack, or use a Thin Client. Second the dial pad of some brands of wired phones won't be able to dial out. You will need to use the software program to dial. (some say its a power issue with the USB port, on my Panasonic KX-TS 27-W the dial pad worked great right until one of Magicjacks online hardware upgrades). Tic me off, but I've adapted.. Third problem is at times the hardware will lose it CD Drive information and you will get a "Broken" error message and lose all your saved numbers and need to reformat its virtual drive & re-establish your account with Magicjack.. After getting the "Broken" error message you will learn to save the data file of your numbers and copy them back after you format the hardware. Also at times the hardware seems to be temperamental and disconnects from the USB port.. that might require a re-format, but not every time.. Bottom line is you most likely will have some minor problems with Magicjack (it ain't as reliable as Ma Bell) but it does work and for now the price is right..

Here's a web site that will enlighten you further... http://www.magicjacksupport.com/

    Hi Mitchell

I've had Magicjack for the past year and never had a single problem with it. None of the problems mentioned in the above post were an issue for me and the quality was definitely better than what I had with Skype. Just my mileage, mind you.

I just need input, good and bad, even a few minor problems would be acceptable. I am a little concerned about the adware I read about.

    Majic Jack

I tried it out about a year ago - installed with no issues, and I don't recall any problems with adware. The call clarity was surprisingly good. I got rid of it only because Majic Jack, at least at that time, would not let you keep your existing number. I've switched over to T-Mobile VoiP service - totally unlimited, within North America, for $10/month, and was able to keep both of my numbers.
