    Hi All,

I recently installed the SP3 update onto my IBM G40 laptop: XP Home Edition. After the install and subsequent reboots, I plugged in my USB key...and nothing happened. The USB device does not show up in My Computer. It made the *duh dah* connection sound signifying it recognized something being plugged in...and that's it.

I rightclicked My Computer ->Manage ->Disk Management and still nothing. All I see is my DVD Drive.

I have tried uninstalling the Composite nodes from Device Manager (as was the advice here (http://www.windowsbbs.com/hardware/76907-sp3-ate-my-usb-2-0-drivers-i-think.html) and restarted my computer...no luck again. It added the composite drives back in.

I could use some advice! I need to use my memory drives!

Oh... and I don't know if it means anything but I get an error at my welcome screen about svchost.exe not working and having to shut down, before proceeding normally to my desktop.

    Thanks in advance! :)

Do you have access to another pc to test the USB key?

It's not the USB key. I've tried plugging multiple devices sticks/external hard drives, etc.

    Same result.

    Hi Guys,

Just providing an update. Under device manager, the USB Memory Stick I plug in (and I've tried MANY of them) don't show up under the USB classification. Instead they're under "Disk Drives" with my main hard drive, etc.

Any advice? I noticed the problem after I installed SP3...

    Thanks!

Hi rohasha28, My 4Gig USB drive shows up > Device Manager > Disk Drives > USBDisk Rundisk USB Device. Also USB Controllers > USB Mass Storage Device. It also shows up Start > Computer > Devices with Removable Storage. Have you tried Restore to a point before SP3? Neil.

If it was me, I would uninstall SP3. Go to the IBM/Lenovo website and get any driver (/software) updates, then try installing SP3 again.
