    Hi guys,
I'm running Win XP Pro on an ASUS M2N8-VMX MoBo. I recently had the misfortune as the result of a self-inflicted virus (OK, I was stupid) to reformat my HDD - a PIA at the best of times.

After burning the midnight oil, installing drivers, getting all my settings as I like them, reloading all my old progs and allowing updates to those that insisted (they don't like to be rejected, eh?), I was up and running again.

BUT - plugging in my external HDD or PVR cable greeted me with the sweet message - ".........connect to a Hi-Speed USB Port........ ".

Hmmm, never had that before . So Sys Info is telling me "USB - Drivers for this device are not installed ". I reworked the MoBo driver disk - nothing!!

I did notice that my MS update included SP3 (never even knew about that one) and wondering if anyone has any ideas.

    Love to hear from you,
    Thanks,
    Den

First thing to try is to go to Device Manager, open Universal Serial Bus Controllers, highlight and (right-click) Uninstall any listing with "Controller" in the heading.

Have any USB devices disconnected, of course.

If it needs to find drivers when you restart, direct Hardware Wizard to the drivers CD.

You can go to the motherboard manufacturer's website and look for updates, they may be bundled with the chipset drivers. You may need to go through the uninstall again after the driver update.

Let us know if you still get problems.

    Matt

    Thanks mattman,
I went to device manager and was 'invited' to install driver. Chose "automatic" and it found drivers immediately obviously from SP3.

Having read a few other offerings re: SP3, I believe it an unwise choice for anyone running AMD although this is the only problem I encountered (apart from a very slow boot up)

Anyway, problem solved (at this stage anyway) So thanks again mate.

    Cheers,
    Den
