    hi

yesterday My OS(WIN XP) was crashed So i tried to recover my data on c drive and d drive by connecting faulty HDD to another system but could not access the drives becuse it was asking me "Do you want to Format the drives yes or No ".I scanned the HDD by typing the command chkdsk /r in command prompt and then restarted the system, After restarting a message was displayed " File record segment 4068 is unreadable ".

Anyone who can help is highly appreciated

I would start by downloading the drive diagnosic tools from the hard drive manufacturer's website.

    For Seagate start here

    For WD start here

Regrettably the conclusion from the diagnostic report is that the hard drive has failed irrevocably.
