i was working on my computer when it suddenly froze, so i had to resart it. after i restarted it, it would get to either the password screen or just before that where you can see the desktop background with no icons and freez there. sometimes it will load up the icons and 2 normal programs on startup as it useualy does, but many other things that load in the botem right tray do not, such as norton and other little programs.

When im able to actualy get to the desktop i cannot acces the task manager to see what processes are runing, or to end any. it will simply not run. i have also tried starting ad aware wich also will not run.

Whenever trying to do something it runs extremly slow, several minuts to do simple tasks like opening something. and runing very slowly.

just it booting to the desktop can take 15 minuts or more, this is the first time i have seen a problem like this.

at the time i do not recall having downloaded anything, i was playing WoW wich ended up kicking me off, shortly after everything whent down and suddenly froze.

After this happend and trying to boot it a few times with no succes i tried to boot into safe mode. however it will not boot into safe mode. it will simply restart the computer, takeing me to the screen to select either safe mode or run windows normaly, if you select safe mode again it will jsut keep repeating.

after clicking safe mode a few lines of information pop up on the black screen saying certain things are being pertitiond and such.

i have also tried accessing things on the control panle such as system restore, however that wont respond, even after waiting for a very long time for it to take action.

So far i have no idea what to do, my computer is not letting me do antyhing to be able to fix the current problem so i got no idea where to begin.

Small edit : also a erleir problem i had some warnigns come up, saying somethign about "bad image" and some .dll files atached for the warning, i did some thigns to fix it, not sure it would caus this tho.

    Any help would be great.

ok big update, i was able to get a type of safe mode runing, and was able to access the task manager and see whats takeing up all the power.

so far the following are useing high amounts of CPU

AUPDATE.EXE- access is denied when trying to end process
    wuauclt.exe
    pctsSvc.exe

any time i try to end these they jsut pop back up.

between these 3 my CPU is being fully taxed and seems to be the source of it running so hrribly slow.

whenever i close down all except AUPDATE.exe

all the procces is moved to that program, and stays taxed at 100%, even if setting the others to low priority.

The next time you get to that screen (tapping F8 will take you there at startup) which permits you to select Safe mode or Normal mode, select Last Known Good Configuration.

    ;)

going into normal safe mode wont work so i gota go into a difernt option it gives, which seems like safe mode, still having problems finding out whats causing this.

i cant start normaly and last good config wont work either, no matter waht mode ic hoose it still locks up before i get to desktop 90% sometimes itle let me by and run very slowly.

I am unable to download or run almost anything on my computer, i have had to disconnect the internet to make sure things cant get worse. im not sure ill be able to get the program onto the computer.

Edit: After doing and removing a few things my computers speed has been restored and the problems resolved, so to my understanding there is no more problems.

    thanks for all info given.
