I've been trying to update for some time now. I keep getting the same error message.

The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view Error number: 0x800704DD

I'm really trying to figure this out and research it. However I am finding that I just don't understand.

One of the suggestions on Microsoft Website I have looked into is:

    2. Expand the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\SensLogn

However I found there is nothing after \Notify\
It has been suggested that this (Senslogn) is a virus or something.

The URL where I found this is http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910341

I really can't afford to replace my computer and I thought of reformatting the hard drive but found that my xp disc was no longer where I kept it.

    Can someone help me, PLEASE.

I just don't understand this stuff enough to try a lot of things on my own yet.:confused:

Hi Mshaver. Download and run Dial a fix from here http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4899.html. When you open it check the boxes that say Fix Windows Update. Once those options are selected then hit go and let dial a fix run. After that is finished then click the hammer button which will launch the advanced tools of dial a fix. Select the option that says reinstall BITS and click Go. See if you can access Windows Update after performnig those above steps. :)

    Hello Arie,

I have posted this issue at another forum and that has pretty much come to a close which is why I am here. This site was a recommendation from that post. That thread can be found at http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=34450

I also down loaded Dial-a-fix as recommended in this post. I have ran it got a log but have not ran the tool. I will wait for more info.

In the mean time I will be following the steps in the Before you post thread you gave me a link to. Thank you for your reply.

Ah, I didn't know you had already pursued the Malware 'angle'.

Suggest you run Dial-a-fix and run the Fix windows update under WU/WUAU.

I ran the Dial-a-fix tool and got a log. I have followed the instructions and sent it in an email to dial-a-fix. I will also log it here just in case There is a help here on the malfunction.

Also when I hit the hammer to do fixes it tells me to insert my disk for I don't have. My xp was stolen several months ago and so I don,t know what to do now. I do have all the info and registration keys but no writable drive to make one. If that can even be done.

Here is the copy of the email I sent to dial a fix.

    Notes about this log:
    1) "->" denotes an external command being executed, and "-> (number)" indicates
the return code from the previous command
    2) Not all external command return codes are accurate, or useful
    3) Sometimes commands return 0 (no error) even when they fail or crash
    4) If an error occurs while registering an object, please send an email to:
dial-a-fix@DjLizard.net and include a copy of this log
