I know that this is not catastrophic but my Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card systray icon has disappeared (replaced by std XP speaker icon) and the location the program to enable it is grayed out. Thanks for the help. Lar

Why is it no surprise that you have a Santa Cruz (SC)? After all, you built my Opteron 165 OC'd computer for me (practically). Good to hear from you!

I know that life will continue without my little icon but since I do a lot of recording of streaming audio with Audacity, I have to access my SC to disable my EQ prior to recording. Lar

    Hi Lar,

Usually I find that another setting or maybe even another program is causing the setting to be greyed out. As such it will by a different method of "restoring" it each time (trial and error :))

You can add the program to the Quick Launch bar.
Go to Start -> All Programs -> find the menu item for the Santa Cruz -> right-click on the item and select Copy, go to the desktop right-click on a blank space and select Paste. You will see a shortcut icon to the Santa Cruz program, click and drag the icon into the Quick Launch Toolbar.

Note that I am talking about the Quick Launck Toolbar, not the Notification Area (System Tray). If you don't have a Quick Launch Toolbar you can enable it by right-clicking on the Taskbar -> Toolbars.

    Matt
PS Maybe you could try looking for any updates at the manufacturer's website. You may need it to work with SP3.

Hi Matt and Rock, thanks for the suggestions.

I found an old FAQ at Turtle Beach that discussed an applet within the Santa Cruz program that initiates the icon....tbctray.exe. I took at shortcut to that and dropped it in my StartUp folder and all is well. Just glad that it was not a dll operated function instead.

    Happy Labor Day, Lar

    Thanks Lar,

I appreciate the fix. We've got big plans for Labor Day .......... rolling out the red carpet for Gustav.

Oh, ,my. I am sure tcbtray.exe is about as low on your radar list as is possible. I am praying for the entire hurricane zone. I looked up your location. You appear to be on the "good" side of the Pontchartrain. Is Lake P so big as to be subject to swell issues? Sorry for my curiosity. Lar

    Rockster,

Hope Gustav dies before it gets to you. Otherwise, be safe.

Not to worry - I'm the curious type too. Its pretty good sized - 24 miles across where we live and that's the small dimension. Opens right into the gulf so its succeptable to storm surge - that's what backed up into the levees causing failure during Katrina. One does what they can - prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Regardless, I hope to be posting before, during and after the storm and am a little better prepared in that department than we were for Katrina.

    Regards,
    ;)

Always thought LA referred to Los Angeles - don't know why. Now I know it is Louisana I am concerned for you and others in your area. Just praying that you may be spared the wrath of Gustav.

Thanks Pete et al ...... I'll post something in general discussion after we get past the immediate threat. This is scheduled to blow in Monday late morning and it looks like it could be a pretty rough ride. We are far enough from the lake and on high enough ground to avoid any storm surge, but its going to get pretty windy around here. Katrina took out 20+ trees and two cars and left us without power, water, phones, cell & internet for 3+ weeks. This one could be worse but we'll be as ready as one can be. I just had the yard looking good again too ............

    ;)

edit: I might name our place Turtle Beach once this is behind us Lar. Just a thought.

You be safe, my friend. And hit the high road if it gets too bad ... before it gets too bad. I don't want to see a news flash with your house in the air like Dorothy's, and spot you pokin your nose out the door. ;)

    Keep in touch!
