Okay, so, my computer has out of nowhere started restarting automatically. Lets say, I'm browsing the internet and all of a sudden, my screen goes black and goes through the sequence of turning on. And this is not a problem coming from visiting certain websites or playing a certain game. I know this because it happens randomly. I came here for help because I heard about a program called hijackthis and heard I can give you some kind of log that will help. Only problem is, i don't know where to download hijackthis. So is it true i can get some kind of help from this?

    Hi Destructor
    Welcome to Windowsbbs. :)

Please download and install HijackThis (let it install to the default location) and Run a scan then close HJT, then run Deckard's System Scanner and post the main.txt log here.
    Links and instructions here.

    Thanks
    Geri

Actually, all of a sudden, it has stopped. All i know is It may have something to do with KernalFaultChack and Kernal39 crashing.

    Hi The Destructor
OK, if you believe that solved the problem.

If it comes back or you just want a check then do the above and post the log here.

    Hi The Destructor,

Please have a look at the event logs and report any error events that have occured (or do occur) at approximately the same time the computer restarts.

To view the event logs, click Start>Run and type eventvwr.msc then hit Enter.
You will find sections for Application, Security and System. We would be interested in Application and System Errors.

To copy an event, double click the log entry to open it's details dialog.
Click the 3rd button on the right (below the up/down arrows, the one with 2 sheets of paper on it) to copy the information to the clipboard.
You can then either paste the information directly into a reply here, or into a blank notepad for posting later or after gathering several events.

Have you opened the case of the PC to check for and clean dust buildup on the CPU heatsink, fans and air intake/exhaust ports? Do you need specific instructions for doing that?

Open the Device Manager by clicking Start>Run and typing devmgmt.msc then hitting Enter.
Look for yellow warning symbols and if present, let me know for what device(s).

I believe those errors were caused by the parent app being in use when the actual problem occured ....... in other words, they didn't cause the problem but were only a result of it. Were there any errors in the System area just prior to the restart?

There's quite a bit of info missing from that message. Please double click it again, then click the clipboard icon on the properties dialog. Now open a reply here and paste the data on your clipboard.

That error is really quite generic, and suggests the problem may be a driver issue, or possibly failing RAM. My recommendation is to run the data dump tool as described here and post a couple dump logs in the XP forum. You should also run a memory diagnostics test, such as memtest86+ or the Windows Memory Diagnostic tool.
