    Hello,
I've been having issues with my C drive. Over the past few months it would go from 1GB to 87.5 MB(what it is at now) to anything inbetween. My computer has a small C partition (13 GB), while the D partition is 55 GB. I've searched for malware, and the program I downloaded from Microsoft couldn't find anything. Regardless, my dad thinks that there is some sort of malware on the computer. Is there any progra and clearner you guys recommend to start this off?

Other issues I've been having is random blue screens every once in awhile, and at times when I switch users it won't let me type in a password, so I have to force it off. I have run both Spybot and Ad-Aware, and they cannot find anything.

After running Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, I recieved this log:

EDIT: Just reciently it went down from 54.something to 36.6 MB. Theres something wrong with this.

Here it is now, with next to no space left:

I'm really just about to system restore it to factory settings then download everything all over again.

When I tried to run DSS, the computer froze and I had to shut it off, possibly because there isn't enough space left.
    Here the Hijackthis report:

Continued from last post, apparently the addresses are showing up as smileys, and this board limits each post to 8.

I have a few issues with this.
    1. What is this "Hosts" at the end of the main.txt? They all seem to be spam/popup sites. Why are they on my computer, and how can I remove them?
    2. In the "extra.txt" this is listed "LimeShop --> wjview /cp:p "C:\Program Files\LimeShop\System\Code" Main lp: "C:\Program Files\LimeShop" ls: deletefeature ld: feature=limeshop.xml ". I uninstalled limewire years ago. I thought I had everything from it deleted, never went away. I went to that location, and there isn't any file for it.

The Limeshop entry is just a leftover registry entry. No worries.

The Hosts entries are from a custom hosts file ..... those sites are being blocked by the hosts file. Again, no worries.

A 13 GB partition for an operating system and programs just isn't that much space. Add a second, third or more user profile and you've cut into that space even further. Temp files, Temporary Internet files, cookies, history, etc, for each profile, coupled with system restore points and the pagefile ........ well, I'm not at all surprised you're out of space. I see you have been installing some programs on other partitions, but I've no way of knowing how many you have on the C:\ partition. To free up space, uninstall some apps and re-install them on another partition.

You could also move the My pictures, My Music and even the My Documents folders to another partition. There is a right way and wrong way to move those items though, so Windows knows where they are. You have to right click each one's Start Menu shortcut and select Properties. There you will find a Move button, as well as a Restore button (in case you want to move them back).

Then, clean up temps using ATF Cleaner by Atribune. Keep in mind items in the recycle bin are using space to. ;)
Clear all but your most recent System Restore point. Most easily done by turning System Restore off, then back on. Right click My Computer and select Properties, System Restore tab, select the drive(s) from the list and click Settings. Check the box to turn off, apply, then turn it back on.
Turn off System Restore monitoring on drives where it is not needed (storage only drives).

Since MBAM did find a few infections, I recommend you run an online scan to be sure there's not something else lurking about. Scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
    • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
    • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
    • Now click on Scan Settings
    • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
      • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      • Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
      • Scan Options:
      • Scan Archives
        Scan Mail Bases
    • Click OK
    • Now under select a target to scan:
      • Select My Computer
    • This will program will start and scan your system.
    • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
    • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
      • Now click on the Save as Text button:
    • Save the file to your desktop.

    Post the Kaspersky log here.

Thanks for the response. It was a 13 gig partition when I bought the computer way back in 2003. I started installing other programs to the D partition when I noticed the space was getting low on the C drive. It was at 1.3 GB for several years. Recently it has been dipping well below that, and it's very sporadic. The H and I drives are only really for downloads (music, movies, torrents, etc)
For some reason, that program wouldn't work in firefox, I had to use IE.
    Here is the results:
I found it pretty lame that it wouldn't clean the infection. Any free programs that would clean it? Also, why didn't my other programs find this?

A new issue. Once I switched my documents to the D drive, there was 2.2GB on the c now. It had enough room to download SP3. I let it restart, and went to bed. I turn it on, the CMD opens randomly when I log in. Now the space on the C drive is 1.23GB. So, is SP3 1GB?

    Lame? Well, maybe, but it's just an online scanner, not a full blown internet security suite. ;) Anyway, the infected items found;

1 is a backup of malware removed in a Spybot scan (in quarantine). To remove it, open Spybot and click recovery. Select all quarantined items then click Purge.

The other detection is in your FireFox profile. If you grabbed ATF Cleaner, run it and select the FireFox option, then clean up your profile.

SP3 a GB? No, but by the time you figure the downloaded file, the added files, the backups of the files replaced with newer versions, the system restore point that was created upon installation, user temp files, and possible growth of the pagefile, yes ... 1 GB sounds reasonable.

Please create and post a fresh HijackThis log so we can see if something related to the login error shows up.

Are you currently using one of the desktop backgrounds that link to an online location? If so, does the error at logon persist if you don't use it?

Since nothing stands out as a possible cause, lets get a startup list from HijackThis.
Open HijackThis to the Misc Tools section.
Select both check boxes in the Startuplist section, then click Generate StartupList log.
Post the contents of that log here.
Please do not put the log in a quote box ;)

I use a locally stored image as my desktop background. Why no quote boxes?

My computer is doing it again.

2 days ago I had 1.86GB, now I only have 567MB. I restored it to earlier, and shutdown my computer, and it is still having the space issues. How does a gig just disappear?

    Startup log looks fine.

Do you have any files similar to the one you reported?

    C:Windows\Guides~1.ssi

The ~1 part will appear differently.
Do you have any files with the .ssi extension?
If so, what application are they associated with?

It's impossible for me to speculate where your space is being used. I can't see your drive contents. I would suggest you use a space checking application such as SpaceMonger, WinDirStat or TreeSize to analyze where your space is being used.
