Hi, I would like to know the likelihood of my USB Stick being infected by a Virus. The other day I helped a relative to disinfect his PC he managed to get himself the "Antivirus 2008" plus accompanying malware.
I downloaded on my PC the Kaspersky free Trail and put it on to my USB stick to install onto his infected PC, and without thinking I inserted it into his PC, but I am concerned now about using it again on my PC, could it be infected.

The antivirus 2008 is adware-nagware that nags the user to purchase the software and may even download makware that infects a pc. By itself it won't affect the usb stick. If your comp has an av progrom then pop in the usb stick and scan it. This is safe to do IF your av program has "auto protect" running. Most av programs automatically scan inserted media like floppies, cds and usb sticks.

    thanks Tony,
maybe you can give me some idea what this is it came out of nowhere not a program or file that I installed.
It is a round green icon on my desktop with a white cross in the middle and it is named "dss" file version 3.2.8.1 I have Googled for it but can not work out what it is all about.
I have scanned it with AV, anti malware but shows up clean have scanned the full system and all is clean. But it has me worried as I don't know where it came from.

Hi Tony, I have been doing more searching for this DSS and I have found what it is "Deckards System Scanner" I must have downloaded it when I was looking for scanners and spyware removal tools.
Are you familiar with this Scanner is it any good, how does it work, if you have any info on it I would appreciate it.
    cheers

Deckards System Scanner is used quite a bit by The folks in "Removing Spyware and Viruses ". It is very useful to them in helping diagnose problems. Check out that forum to see some examples.

    You're quite welcome.

Both Geri and Dave work hard to fix our problems and to help us protect our systems from the malicious scum out there. They deserve and big thumbs up!
