Good anamated graphic programs

Is there any good anamated graphic programs out there?

I just received a newletter from CNet and in it was a link to an open source program called Blender. I read the reviews, took a look at the site and decided to download it. I have not tried it yet, as it seems that you may need a considerable amount of time if you are a novice to this sort of thing.

There are several programs I have used in the past but the best by far is 3D Studio - but its not cheap.

It really depends on what you want to use it for. Blender is a pretty decent program and if you haven't done animation before it will take time to learn - but that is where the fun is

It also matters whether you want spline based or polygon based programs. Its been a while since I have done any animation and I am sure there are a lot of shareware programs out there, but shop around at places like download.com and try out some of what you find and pick one that fits your needs.
