Hi, I have an oldish AcerPower F1 desktop PC for the kids that won't work with a new dimm module. I don't have the manual and can't get it from Acer website at the moment (site down?) The PC specs are:

    2.6Ghz P4 (maybe Celeron)
    40Gb HDD
256Mb ram installed (I believe it shipped as new with this)
    400MHz bus, 2 x 184 pin DIMM, with the maximum supported ram being 2Gb. Supported speeds are 400MHz, 333MHz & 266MHz.

I purchased a new 1Gb PC3200 (400) dimm, but when installed the computer emits one long beep, pauses for a second or two and beeps again. I've checked the BIOS thinking I might need to manually change a setting, but the only options I see relating to ram are greyed out and I can't change anything. I checked the specs before buying the ram to ensure I got the right sort, but now I'm beginning to wonder. What do I need to do to get the computer to accept this new ram? Any advice would be appreciated.

    thanks
    pete

thanks for the links Tony, I've sent an e-mail to Acer tech support, but since the computer is second hand I don't know if I'll get a reply. Anyway, the ram I have is the same, only a 1Gb stick. The system has 1 x 256Mb stick and this works ok. Funny thing, the Acer site has no tech information on the 'F1' and the web site link for drivers, manuals etc doesn't seem to work. The site 'AcerPanAm.com' doesn't respond. Very strange...

I had the same problem with their web site when I was looking for information. So, I called them, they seemed to be willing to answer questions 800-571-2237
