    My rig:
    AMD 64 X2 4400+
    2GB RAM
    Gigabyte SLI Mobo
1 Asus Extreme AX850 video card 256MB(I realized you cant SLI these cards after the fact)

I have had problems with my computer randomly crashing during gameplay (warcraft 3, battlefield 2, Oblivion, etc; just about any game). I noticed that the original driver would give an error to the screen during crashes. I updated and consequently got a replacement BSOD for the errors. I updated again to the latest and "greatest ", but now the computer just hangs forever until I manually power switch it. I am 90% the culprit is the video card, but I want to make as much sure as possible before I get a new 8800. I did a 10 hour memtest and had no errors. I see the exception below along with the DRIVER_FAULT. How can I tell for sure that the driver is the video card? FYI, I have heard to replace the card with a friend's, but the problem is randomly reproducible so I am trying this method first... Here is my log:

Your debug report has a lot of error message "GetContextState failed, 0x80004002" and this is the symptom of faulty ram. Refer the following problem (#post 16)
    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=59134

If you overclock the ram or video card, change it back to factory setting. Do upu have another debug report with different bugcheck code. If yes, attach the debug report here. You have to aware that some faulty ram can pass memtest.

Thanks for the tip. As an FYI, my RAM is not OCed nor is my video card. One thing that strikes me odd about this whole thing is that the problem, over the past couple years, seems to get worse with each new driver from Asus (worse in the way of recovery and frequency). Not to say you are wrong, but to me, there seems to be something linked to the video card and the driver. Could the errors be related to bad memory on the board itself? I see in #16 they talk about Nvidia drivers. My mobo has a nvidia drivers for the NIC, basic graphics, etc. I am pretty sure that I only have my video card installed in device manager under display.

What else can I do to get some more info because that is the only log I have (until it crashes again; but the logs look pretty much the same)

EDIT: Note that my card is an ATI chip based (mobo supports Nvidia). Is this a problem?

    Thanks!

Error code 80004002 means the dump is corrupted (ie the content of the dump is invalid). There have several possiiblity the dump is corrupted. Faulty ram, PSU or device driver error (ie video card driver) ***** up the the memory. I recalled two years I came across a similar problem and the culprit is ATI video card driver but I forgot the url of the problem. If you can provide 3 to 4 debug reports, I will examine the pattern and confirm the culprit. If your windows always crash with same pattern, usually it is software error as hardware error occurs at random pattern. As you mention that your windows crashes with same pattern, you maybe right the culprit maybe video card driver and what version of video card driver are using. Research google and check any known problem is reported for your version of video card driver.

The problem that I refer at techspot, besides post #16 there have a lot of hints the problem is related to faulty ram.

Thanks for the help again. I looked online and saw that there is a new driver so I am trying it out. I'll post the next crash that I get :)

A slight update: My computer has crashed twice since my last post, however it did not create a log dump... Is my computer getting that messed up that it can't even dump its crash? Any other ways to obtain a dump?

Here is another dump from a crash. I notice the SB Live popping up. I never had problems with this card in my old computer though...

I expect your motherboard has built-in audio, have you disabled it in the BIOS and uninstalled any software for it if it was installed?

I was looking at the list under Start End Module Name, there are quite a few "unknowns ". I checked a few, searches bought up a fair few hits for DirectX, so multimedia (audio, graphics and DirectX) may seem to be areas to concentrate on.

Is there any chance that the graphics are getting overheated?

Check for an update for the motherboard/chipset drivers.

    Matt

First off, the reasoning behind NOT using the integrated audio was because the first time I used it, the sound quality was pretty bad. I had the old SB Live X Gamer card lying around so I used that. In my old computer, the SB card never gave me a single problem, so I said why not?

Anyway, I just disabled the SB card and reinstalled the integrated audio, and of course the sound is perfect this time around... If my computer doesn't crash anytime soon, I guess that was the problem (but then I cant get an 8800... What should I be rooting for?) In terms of overheating, I dont think that is the case. Like I said before, the games I am playing are simple graphics games like War Craft 3. Besides, since my case is old (I have a new one, just not installed yet) and due to some problems I was having with cabling, I left the side off. During the summer I even ran a regular fan on it to help cool. It never seemed to help the crashing though.

    Thanks!
