    Hi,
Can any one give me any ideas on why my computer would just quit saving passwords after I shut it down. I have a Windows XP, I've went through all the Internet Options and it's clicked to "prompt to save passwords" and it will until I shut my computer down and when I start back up I have to start all over again saving them.
I went through the archives here and can't seem to find this kind of specific problem...

    Thanks, Rhonda

I would delete the Autocomplete settings and start over - the file may be corrupted ....

Under Autocomplete settings uncheck all the boxes - close IE

    Reopen IE

Tools > Internet Options > General tab > Browsing History > Delete and select Form Data and Passwords.

Then return to Autocomplete settings and check the 3 boxes.

    Hi Pete,
Went to the thread and even printed out, so here what I've done so far, and so far nothing has worked:

    1. As far as the Power Toys, didn't know which one to try, do you?

    2. Went to the link on Auto Complete for Windows XP (Home Edition) Had me to put in a registry subkey savedProtectedStorage, did that, then wanted me to Delete the subkeys in the Protected Storage, it will not let me do that. Any ideas there. Could this be an issue?

    3. Tried to do a New Account User as someone suggested, it doesn't work there iether. Logged in as a new user then shut it down logged back in and didn't save any passwords.

    4. Ran a systemn file check, nothing came up. Other then asking that I needed to go to the internet to open up certain files. I didn't, I didn't want to mess anything up.

these next 2 are interesting, and maybe an issue...I have no idea how to fix:

    5. Did the Start > Run < services.msc, scrolled down and everything was there that was supposed to be....
Then tried to type in Regsver32 /u RSABase.dll, this is what came up; LoadLibrary ( "RSABase.dll ") failed- the specific module could not be found.

    6. Then says the Protected Storage runs as lsass.exe.....to look in Windows, well I can't either of the following:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe
    or
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache\lsass.exe

I don't know if it matters but here is my system and IE I'm using

Dell XPS Gen2, Window XP Home Edition
    IE7
This problem just started out of no where about 6 months ago....don't remember really changing anything it just started....

I hope this info can help you help[ me and not utterly confuse you :)

    Rhonda

    1. The download URL for TweakUI is .....

    http://download.microsoft.com/downl...a6-b352-839afb2a2679/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

    2. The poster in the thread I referenced had the same problem - no ideas.

    4.
That's a new one on me.

    5.The URL http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q306895
refers to IE 5 & 5.5 - the file RSABase.dll does not exist in IE 7 - BTW which version are you running?

    6. lsass.exe - starts with l as in logon - check again :)

Is Protected Storage showing up in Services? If not the solution to that was posted in the URL at the end of that thread .....

    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?p=265611#post265611

Unfortunately that did not solve the poster's Autocomplete problem.

    I am running IE7

That is how I did it.

    Yes

I did download the FireFox....which will keep my passwords....but for some reason will shut down (I guess hiberanate) my computer after like 10 minutes of not using....just move the mouse and comes back on...why would FireFox do that when I have it set not too? Maybe I will just have to go this route if I want to keep my passwords.....though I have Vista ordered, so I'm thinking of installing that and won't have this issue anymore. So I'm thinking of just keeping the FireFox until I get the Vista. So is there a link to somewhere to give me an easy way to back up my stuff, or just put what I want to keep on disc?? To put back on my computer....Getting off my original post I know, sorry....I have so much stuff on my computer I hate to do this, it's go to Vista or thinking of restoring my computer to new and I like Vista from what I've seen so far (friend has it now).

Thanks for all the suggestions though...I don't think that poster in the one post ever got his back to saving either did he....something maybe just goes corrupt and cant be fixed with out restoring the whole computer maybe???

    Thanks, Rhonda

If lsass.exe is missing the computer is unlikely to boot - does it show up under running processes in Task Manager?
You will have to post that question in the Netcape & Mozilla Forum.

I do not rely on IE to save any passwords, etc - I use Roboform - there is a trial which will save up to 10 passwords, etc - any more and you need the full software.

I am not into Vista, but it has a facility called Windows Easy Transfer which is basically designed to transfer from the old PC to a Vista PC, but will, apparently, also work to/from an external hard drive or DVD.

For more guidance post in the Vista forum.

Thanks for all the help though....everything seems to be where it's supposed to be just won't save the passwords. Go figure.....
I guess I was just thinking if I'm gonna restore it to new....I know there is a ton of junk on here messing things up too, why not upgrade to Vista......
I'll check the other things out on saving all my stuff...maybe an easy way, (LOL!! yeah right huh??LOL)
