As the title says, I am looking for the best refresh rate for a twelve year old CTX 1765GMe Monitor.

XP sees it as a "default" monitor. Have looked high and low for a driver for this monitor but have had no luck.

    Current resolution 1024 X 768 at 60 hz

    Video: Radeon 7000 w/64MB RAM

Everest says 85hz is recommended for "classic (CRT) displays ".

I don't want to cause any problems for the monitor so have stayed with what XP set it at.

Anyone have any ideas or advice?

    Thanks in advance

    Mitchell

You tried the drivers from CTX?
    http://www.ctx.com.tw/En-Frame-driver.htm
It would be the Old Series. It only contains colour files and the Inf file. Right click on the .inf file and select Install. That should make it appear in the list when you run Driver Update in Device Manager or Control Panel -> Display. Also try using the Have Disk button to direct it to the CTX folder.

From what I can gather, results for using that driver in XP were "average ".

If Refresh Rate is your only worry, if you don't notice lines moving across the screen and it does not seem to give you eye strain or headaches, it should be fine at 60Hz.
[Pump it up a notch or two if you are not satisfied, you will make it work a little harder, but for a 12 year old piece of hardware, you may as well not "spare the rod" :D]

It would be nice to have the right driver...just because I'm picky about those things....if there is a driver why not use it instead of default?

Went to CTX web site but couldn't find the 1765GMe on the "model" list. Didn't want to download the wrong thing.

Anyway, refresh rate was really my only concern. Not having any problems..no eye strain..color is good. I'm going to try Everests suggestion and put it at 85 for a day to see what difference there is, if any. Don't think it will hurt this old workhorse too badly.

You could try that driver (Old Series seems to be a "general" driver) . Looking at any driver in Win XP (Device Manager), it has "Roll back driver ". Installing the .inf file should allow appropriate drivers to be shown/chosen in the Add Hardware wizard. You should be able to "roll back" the driver if necessary.

(You can set a System Restore point for added insurance if required.)

Downloaded the "old" drivers. Nothing there for the 1765GMe. Emailed CTX for help. Not a big deal though, like I said, I'm a little picky about these things. Works fine as it is. Didn't like 85hz. Went back to 60hz.
