I am running Windows 2000 and using a wireless modem for my broadband connection to the NET. However, whenever my system is idle for a few minutes and I try to connect or check my mail, I get the error posted in my title.

    Why?

    Programs running are:

    Spybot S&D
    AVG Free
    Sygate Personal Firewall

    Any ideas will be welcomed

Yes, when I set up the wireless modem in December. Been getting the error for some time but not sure if I have had it since I got connected.

    My local Area Connection is numbered "2 ", I don't have a "1 ".......

understand. my problem isn't critical, just annoying. it hasn't kept me from browsing or downloading. I just thought it was odd and wondered if I could fix it.

Xanadoo (Pegasus Broadband) [Xanadoo.com] is a wireless provider on the east coast and in the midwest (i think). I googled the question earlier today and it seems I am not alone with this error message but didn't see anything that fixed it. Micorsofts knowledge base mentioned a registry entry but mine is aready on auto as they recommend.

I my Services, I have DNS disabled ------ I was told earlier in the Windows 2000 forum that I really didn't need it if I have a direct connect to the internet. Had this problem when the DNS was running also.

after thought - if you run cable to router- router to tower and still have no connect. unplug power to modem for a few seconds then plug it back in, it will then find it. wired is wall to modem - modem to router - router to tower.

I orginally posted this in the General Internet forum but I think it is more of a Win2000 problem or a problem with my firewall.

Basically, I am losing my connection to the internet while I am browsing. I may be on one page for a few minutes and then try to link to another page and I get the title error.

Can anyone help me fix this problem?

    Hello Mitchell,

I've merged your thread from the General Internet section into this one.
Have you tested whether it is the firewall by disabling it?

If you do disable Sygate - go someplace safe, such as here to test this. This is one of the reasons Wk2 is realy obsolete, XP has a built in bound blocking firewall that makes this kind of testing safe.

    Regards - Charles
