DVD Decoder for Win2K

    Got a used dvd-rom/CD-RW for my computer today. tried to play a dvd and got an error "no dvd decoder installed" where can I get one?

    at the microsoft download center. i would have given you the site but it was too long. just go there and type in dvd decoder :eek:

    Thanks. The file I found is WMEncoder.exe Is that correct? I have Media Player 9 on my system. Don't think MP 10 will work on W2K

    you can try 10 if it don't work when you add-remove it - it just rolls back to 9.

    I think I will do that. It never hurts to try. The file I downloaded wasn't the right one. didn't work.

    i went back to download center typed in media player 2000. it had several patches and updates for 9

    Well, guess I'll have to stop being so cheap and buy some decoder software. Downloaded some "free" stuff but they wanted to add "browser helper objects" and collect data. I don't like that too much.

    i thought when you downloaded a WMP it came with it ? I'll upfrade from 10 and let you know.

    Thanks Matt,

    Picked up something called Zoom Player. Works. Now I just need to upgrade my video card to something with more RAM (mine is SIS w/8MB RAM) DVDs play very slowly with choppy sound. Picture nice and clear though.
