    drumkit26 - Welcome to the Board :)

Follow the instructions in Post #2 from this thread and we'll take it from there ....

    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=54097

Click on SmitfraudFix which is highlighted in blue - this is a link to the download. Download HijackThis through Quicklinks in my signature - click on Quicklinks and again on HijackThis - save it to a folder on your hard drive, say C:\HJT - not to the Desktop or a temporary folder.

Please follow my instructions as posted in the thread I referred you to - Post #2 which asks you to run SmitfraudFix, not HijackThis and post the report here.

I have not come across that before.

We will try another approach ....

Delete SmitfraudFix from your desktop and download Smitrem - written by a past moderator on this Board - from here ....

    http://noahdfear.geekstogo.com/

and follow the instructions given there.

To be honest I have no idea why theses supposedly W2k applets will not run.

I am seeking an opinion from another WindowsBBS Team Member.

    try this:
start comp in Safe Mode w/out Networking & logon as Administrator, & run HijackThis, then check these items & press the fix button:

    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\blank.htm
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Window Title = Microsoft Internet Explorer provided by Dell

    next:
go to control panel/folder options/view tab & setup comp to show hidden files, protected operating system files (if available), sow contents of system folders (if available), do NOT hide file extensions for known file types.

    next:
delete ALL files & folders in:

    next:
go to control panel/Internet Options/General Tab/delete temporary internet files & offline content.
