    I really have very limited computer experience. I was able to get this log from highjackthis.exe. I have the same problem as multiple others. Where do I go from here? Any help is appreciated

    Beginner1 -Welcome to the Board :)

    I have split your post to a new thread.

    First move hijackthis.exe to a folder on your hard drive, say C:\HJT - the temp folder that you have it in at present is not suitable. If it is easier for you make the folder C:\HJT and download HijackThis again through Quicklinks in my signature to that folder.


    Download SmitfraudFix - smitfraudfix.zip - this is a compressed file and the contents must be extracted to a folder on your Desktop.

    I am assuming that you are running XP and will be using the Extraction Wizard.

    Right click on the zip file and click on Extract all.

    The Extraction Wizard opens > click on next > Select a Destination > click on Browse > click on Desktop > click on OK > click on next and the files will be extracted. A Window will open showing the contents of your Desktop - close it and go to the Desktop and you should see a new folder on it - SmitfraudFix.

    Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double click on Smitfraudfix.cmd

    If a Security Warning pops up hit the Run button

    A command window appears > press any key to continue

    On the line with the flashing cursor 'Enter your choice (1.2 ....) type 1 and press Enter

    The program scans your system and when the scan has completed a Notepad window opens containing the scan report.

    Select Edit from the menu bar then Select All from the dropdown menu - the text is highlighted in blue

    Select Edit from the menu bar then Copy

    Return to your thread here and hit Reply and right click on the white area of the message pane and select Paste from the menu which appears. The report will be pasted into your reply.

    I went ahead and took a leap of faith and continued with step #2 (based on other posts) and deleted the files with option 2 in safe mode. Appears that everything is now clean. Please let me know if anything looks fishy based on my log.

    OK - we're not finished yet :)

    If you have not already done so move hijackthis.exe to a folder on your hard drive, say C:\HJT

    Boot into Safe Mode and scan with HJT and post the log file.
