How do I remove the securityuptodate.com virus?

    I have been following the answers that has been given to others but i can't find where to download highjackthis and SmitfraudFix. I:confused: guess I need help from the start.

    I have downloaded the two programs. The sad part to this is I have an out of town emergency and will be away until Saturday. if you will give me a little time I will be so thankful.

    OK Tim, this is the next step ....

    You may like to print out these instructions as you will be unable to connect to the Internet to read them while in Safe Mode.

    Boot into Safe Mode and log onto your usual account.

    In Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd

    Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

    You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ? "; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

    The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter ".

    The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process. A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process - a copy of this file is saved as C:\rapport.txt.

    Reboot into Normal Mode and download HijackThis through Quicklinks in my signature - save it to a folder on your hard drive, say C:\HJT and not to the Desktop or a temporary location. (you have done this, but please ensure that the location is a folder on the hard drive and not on the Desktop)

    Reboot into Safe Mode, double click on hijackthis.exe and select Scan and save a log file. When the scan has finished a log file will appear in Notepad and will be saved in the same folder as you placed hijackthis.exe.

    Boot into Normal mode and post the contents of of the SmitfraudFix log located at C:\rapport.txt into this thread along with the HJT log.

    Delete this folder and scan again using hijackthis.exe from C:\HijackThis after you have booted into Safe Mode.....

    Place a check mark against these entries and click on 'Fix selected' .....

    Then search your hard drive - include hidden files and folders for vmlib.exe and delete it - it is a trojan.

    Scan again with HJT and post another log.
