I have been using FF 1.0 and 1.5 - the autoupdate installed 1502 and now Norton won't seem to allow 1502 to do its accessing to Mozzilla

I have gone into Norton - did a program scan - found Firefox - changed to 'permit' - rebooted etc.

    ??

Result is that Firefox remains inoperative - IntExpl works fine

    Anyone having similar problem?

Thankfully, I don't have Norton, so the link looks fine.
I must say that your first sentence did not make much sense, but I get it, now.
My guess is that you may have had an earlier version of Firefox, and did not uninstall it. I am using Firefox 1.5.0.2, now, and I installed it in a separate folder, and am using a different profile. I have not had a problem.

    Thanks for the links

Went back and looked at NS again - there was a new Firefox entry in programs with 'block' - I HAD checked this earlier and had changed all to 'permit'

Changed again to 'permit' - had to toggle a few times - now OK

Inasmuch as NS is indeed used by so many - a bit surprised that Mozilla had not worked with NS for NS update material to recognize FF 1502

Just wondering what you are using - F-Secure - or?

I fixed the introduction to me problem above in case anyone else is experiencing difficulties.

I was using Zone Alarm, until a couple days ago, and am using windows firewal since I got XP. I had to enter exceptions to all program I wanted to use. Zone Alarm, instead would come up with a window asking me to allow or not, and to remember the settings. I never had a problem with new software.
I don't like to hear of security programs deciding what is right or wrong, with no warning, if this was, indeed, the case.
You earlier post indicate surprise that Mozilla did not fix Netscape.
FYI, Netscape is owned by AOL, which not only decides what to do (or not to), but it also modifies the program. I am thinking of Netscape as an illegitimate child of Mozilla, who moved out. You should read Ramona's article in the sticky section to ge the scoop.

Actually I wasn't saying that. I 'mistakenly' used NS as abbreviation for Norton Security and NOT Netscape - and my surprise is not with respect to any 'fixing' but that Norton updates don't seem to include anything needed for FF 1502 to maintain previous firewall access.

This could have happened by Norton's own work - or Mozilla alerting Norton as to changes which might make for a firewall problem for somehow that was using Norton and the previous 1501.

This would not be coming about by anyone owning anyone but Norton accomodating what is probably the 2nd or 3rd most used browser - and Mozilla accomodating its clients that are using the most - or 2nd or 3rd - used security program.

    Just mutual 'heads up' work.

It makes more sense now. It shows, once again, that abbreviations can cause confusion. I think that NIS (Norton Internet Security) is the abbreviation I am used to. But, why would it do what it did, is some flaw.
I have had to tell the three Firewalls which I have tested, in the last three days, which path I want to use, but I was never deny access, unless I goofed.
