I just installed and ran microsofts anitspyware. I have ran it 3 different times. This last time i had moderate threats and I deleted them. Not quarentine i totally got rid of them. When I turned my computer back on I had an error that said Rundll at the top then the rest said c:\Program~1\Newdot~Newdot~1dll the specified module could not be found. So i thought i had removed something I needed as I always got that error when loggin on.I run XP so I went back to an earlier restore time and did a system restore. Now my question is this do I need that newdot whatever it is? If not then if i remove it wont I always have that error popping up? Help I am lost!
    Thanks

I edited your thread title to be a bit more descriptive.

You do not need Newdot.net, it is spy/adware, and is why MS Anti removed it, and not in a good fashion.
It is sort of good you used a Restore Point, in this case.

Go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall Newdot.net, and reboot. Then use WinSockFix.
Then use the MS Anti to remove the other threats you have restored using SR.

You may want to post a HijackThis log.

    Hello chalver,

Have you read this thread? It will explain a few things.
    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=45509

    HijackThis instructions:

Download from here http://radiosplace.com/ latest version 1.99.1

Download it to it's own folder, for example C:\HijackThis - unzip (double click on zipped folder) - click on the execute - click scan button - click save log and save to the folder you just created *DO NOT FIX ANYTHING* - copy resultant .txt file and paste into your next post.

    Regards - Charles

You have a few items for removal. First unzip HJT into it's own folder, it works better this way. You have run it from within the ZIP file.
Download About:Buster, it may be a good idea to run it after doing the below. Be sure to update it before use.

    Newdot.net is gone!

Open HJT, and click on 'Open the misc tools section', then click on 'Delete a file on reboot'. A File Open window will appear, copy/paste this into it.
    C:\WINDOWS\lbbho.dll
Then click on OK, and you will be prompted to reboot, select No. Then do the same for these.
    C:\WINDOWS\AHKQXAHO.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\GQL.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\DNXFP.exe

Rescan with HJT, and remove these.

    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchAssistant = about:blank

Now reboot, and then run the updated About:Buster, then please post a new HJT log.

    Hi chalver,

From my instructions: Download it to it's own folder, for example C:\HijackThis

So create a folder on your C drive and put the HJT zip file into it and open it and double click on that zip file, that will unzip hijack into its own folder

    Regards - Charles

    Hi chalver,

Yes, the un-zip process wants to un-zip to a folder.

BTW, the reason for not putting into the temp directory where you had it is because part of any fix may be flushing it out.

I have it in its own folder and I am getting as far as where it says a file window will appear it is the window showing my desk top. It does have a place for file name and i can type it in there but there is no place that says ok. I can only select open or cancel. Now what???

Here is instructions on how to unzip into it's own folder.
Right click on the file you downloaded, choose Extract All on the context menu that appears.
A window will appear, named Extraction Wizard. Click on Next. Now you will see "Files will be extracted to this directory" , enter in "C:\Hijack" in the white area below that. Then click on Next. Click on Yes when prompted about creating a folder.
Then click on the Finish button when it appears, and the newly created folder will appear, and then run HijackThis.

    Got all that butttttttttttttttt

Yes I have the hijack folder working properly. The part i am not seeing right is where Markp said Open HJT, and click on 'Open the misc tools section', then click on 'Delete a file on reboot'. A File Open window will appear, copy/paste this into it.
    C:\WINDOWS\lbbho.dll
Then click on OK, and you will be prompted to reboot, select No.

There is no place to hit ok!!!! It opens for instance and you can browse desktop cdrive etc. there is a area at bottom to type in file name but then you can only hit open or cancel. this is where i am lost! Feeling really stupid about now!! Thanks for all your help I appreciate it. :)

Sorry, that was click on "Open" in the File Open window. I revised the instructions for you below.

Open HJT, and click on 'Open the misc tools section', then click on 'Delete a file on reboot'. A File Open window will appear, copy/paste this into it.
    C:\WINDOWS\lbbho.dll
Then click on Open, and you will be prompted to reboot, select No. Then do the same for these.
    C:\WINDOWS\AHKQXAHO.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\GQL.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\DNXFP.exe[/i]

Open HJT, and click on 'Do a System Scan Only'

Find this entries in the list, putting a checkmark in the little box to the left of each line by clicking the box with the mouse.

    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchAssistant = about:blank

    Now click on 'Fix Checked'.
    Then reboot.
Now open the About:Buster, and have it update itself. Then do 2 scans with it back to back. When done, open HJT again, and click on 'Do a System Scan and Save a logfile', and please post the new log on here to see if anything new is there.

    Congratulations!
Your HJT log is clean, and the following is just cleanup, from something else removed. No need to post a new log after removal. Have a good day.
