    Hi,
For the last few days my XP Pro on start up brings up the split blue screen on the right side my Admin. Picture with the request to log on.
I have never had that before it always booted sraight into Windows. I did not change any settings at all, Windows just did that.
I can not find on how to change that back to normal.
    thanks

Hi, and thanks, I did have a look in how to change a log on, but I don't want to log on I do not have a password for log on. That way I can not use the method used in run.
Surferdude you mention in that other post that you installed Net Framework 1.1
that is installed in my system but I never installed it not knowingly anyway.
what does it do and is it save to uninstall.
I guess I need more good advice.
    thanks

.Net is safe to uninstall for most users - however some programs require .Net to operate - Norton Ghost 9 is one. There may be others, but I have no further info on this.

In actual fact you log on every time you start the PC - for the most part on a single user m/c this is done automatically. If you are not aware of your password just try leaving it blank. May work, may not :)

    Thanks Pete & Surferdude,
I do have TweakUI and I did have a look at that and I almost put a tick in that Box but then the "Set Password" dialog is highlighted and as I don't have a password I was worried that it would not allow me to log on at all.
So I thought I come back here and ask more questions before I hang myself.
So putting a tick in that box for automatic log on will work without a password ?? what do I do in regards to Set Password.
I think I know what installed that .Net around that time I installed a Image Resizer called MIR .NET and it requested to install some MS stuff before it would work. Well I haven't used the program yet to see if it works.
    thanks guys

Yes - that requires Microsoft .NET Framework - see here

Unless you are desperate to use MIR.NET I would uninstall it along with Microsoft .NET Framework and get back to square 1 re. logon and forget the password worries.

The Tweakui Autologon works fine if you have a password - I used it after installing Microsoft .NET Framework required for Norton Ghost 9 - what happens if you have no password I have no idea and no means of checking for you on my m/c's.

FWIW, I've used TweakUi for this with no password and never had a problem. I just left it blank and windows booted fine.

Yeah, me too, no password, no login nag, no problem. Get TweakUI and get on with it.

You may also notice that MS offers a Service Pack for .net Framework 1.1 in that link posted. It's called .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1.
It supposedly takes care of that problem but given the convoluted information in their KB article I'm not sure I believe them. ;)

    Thanks Guys,
I put the tick in the TweakUI Box and it started up ok without the LogIn, I thought I mention this for te benefit to someone else who might have this situation. After a 2hr period of not using the PC my Monitor was set to go on standby and after re-activating it there was the Log On again. I decided to set it to never in the Control Panel Power Management when I came across this dialog where there is the option to Log On or not Log On after Monitor Standby.
    thanks again
