    Hi

I don't know what I did but I need help with my XP logon. I have the welcome screen and fast user switching turned on but the computer defaults to the administrator when it logs on which is weird because I (Randy) AM the administrator.

How do I get it back so that it, at the very least, does what it used to and prompt me to click on "Randy ".

Better yet, how do I get it to barrel right in under "Randy ", bypasing all mayhem.

Guest user is turned off. Only other user is Randy which is the administrator so what's happening and how do I get it not to happen???

    Thanx in advance,
    Randy

The easiest way is to get TweakUI and use it to allow Autologon. What you are experiencing was likely caused by a recent MS update. There are ways to edit the Registry to fix it but TweakUI does that easier.

Please see this thread for links to TweakUI.

    Hi,

Thanks and I might try UI but it was some run command I initiated that I found on google somewhere. Something that was supposed to maybe get rid of the "Randy" screen. Instead, it prompted me for a pasword which I left blank for the Admin but something was creepy about enabling offline files. Does that give everyone a better idea of what I did?

I need to know if UI will also rid me of the now stupid Administrator's Documents and Randy's Documents foledrs which are now, in Windows Explorer, BELOW my C, D, & E drives. I want it back the way it was.

It's like I need to toast an identity but the identity is, both, me and the administrator, somehow split as if we are 2 but we aren't.

Have you tried doing a System Restore to a point prior to this problem?

    Yep!

UI did the trick. Now, my old computer, like my new one, no longer has the pesky Administrator's folder in Windows Explorer.

Shouldn't there be a Randy's Documents in 2 places? One folder below Shared Documents (below C,D, & E) and also one within the general "My Documents folder lsited before the HDs???

Just curious because that's how my big machine is set up unless I can't remember copying the folder up there.

    Anyone at all????

(don't want to do a Restore because so many programs were put in after the boo-boo I did)

    Randy

Your personal ID folder should be at C:\Documents and Settings\Randy and nowhere else. That assumes Randy is your user ID.

Paste the following into the Run window and it'll get you to the current users folder:

    C:\documents and settings\%username%\

As far as the "My Documents" folder is concerned, I only have one and that's all I've ever seen listed. I also have a Shared Documents and an Owners Documents folders listed.

I really appreciate your help but while you were posting I found a restore point that was SUPPOSED to be "after installing Norton System Works" and apparently in was more like something DURING the installation because it sure as heck had nothing to do with a complete install.

Now I have a nightmare on my hands and Registry Healer will be working overtime here tomorrow night. Programs galore but only in Windows Explorer.

I have to sign off now to bed but will jump in back in here as soon as it's all straightened up.

    Thanx, everyone!
