All of a sudden, my user ID and my password window doesn't appear when I boot up. When I go to the user section of control panel, it indicates that my computer has a user id and a password. I have also noticed a new "user" called asp.net machine A...'s account. What is this? Can anyone tell me what's going on?

    Thanks for your help.

That's a result of you having installed an update from M$. Do a search here for .NET Framework 1.1 and you'll get some answers. Your case is rather strange since you are experiencing the opposite of what normally happens. Most complaints were, "I am getting a sign on screen now instead of going directly into the Desktop as i always have." The easy fix was, get TweakUI and click the logon tab and then the Autologon feature. You may want to try that rather than editing the Registry manually.

Another option is to uninstall that update since you probably don't need it if you aren't creating web sites or doing other programming.

Remember... there are quite a number of 3rd party programs, & even MS utilities that require .NET framework.

So what you're telling me is that I have an auto logon feature? How do I make it manual? I will leave the .net user because I'm afraid to delete it.
I have no idea when the last update was installed or how to uninstall it.

Any help is appreciated. I don't feel comfortable with autologon.

    Thanks

    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Microsoft\.NET Framework Config\v1.0.3300.0

That version works quite well for me Arie. I suppose that makes me behind the times but I see no reason to update. It's the 1.1 version I was referring to when I suggested the uninstall. I just don't see the necessity of ver. 1.1 at this time for most users. With it you get the log in problem, although that's manageable, I choose not to bloat the system if not needed. .Net ver 1.1 is about 250 megs I think I recall. It's all in a past post that I beat to death with Johanna.

okay ... i finally got around to installing Tweak UI and I went to "logon ".
    There were four choices.

The first was unchecked "keep ras connections after log off on." I left it unchecked.

The second was checked. It said "parse autoexec.bat at logon." This was the only thing that remotely resembled an auto logon choice. I unchecked it and restarted but my signon screen still didn't show up.

The third item was "show aspnet after log off on welcome screen. I left it checked.

The fourth item said "show (my name) on welcome screen. I left that checked.

So where has my signon screen gone? There is no password and I can't find the auto feature to disable it. So what goes?

    Puzzled.

    Mine looks like this.

    TweakUI Ver, 2.10.0.0

I think you failed to click the + symbol beside Logon to expand the menu, what?

If that box is already checked, uncheck it and log off.

If it isn't checked, check it and log off. If you don't get what you expect, go back and uncheck it and log off again. You get the idea? We're just exercising the Registry so as to rewrite the Key back to normal.

Duhhhhh ... you're right. I didn't click it because it looked already clicked.

    Thanks.
