As a current user of NS 7.1, I decided to upgrade to v. 7.2. But the installation process in failing on my computer without any explanation :
    - in the sequence decribed in http://home.att.net/~cherokee65/index5.html the installer can't reach step 6 : it stays in memory, but nothing more happens after clicking on "next" in step 5 ;
    - my Netscape 7.1 is not working anymore.

    Please, help me !

    Welcome to the Forum, Fulget!

    Hi Fulget,

A few questions so we can get to the bottom line of your install problems.

    1. Did you install 7.2 over 7.1?

    2. If not, did you uninstall 7.1?

    3. If you uninstalled 7.1, did you also delete the 1.4f_2003062408 folder, which is located here:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\mozilla.org\GRE

Let us know, and we can get you up and running. As there are some security issues in Netscape 7.2, please read this thread, and then decide if you wish to continue with 7.2, or if you wish to consider moving to Mozilla 1.7.3, which has addressed the security issues: http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=35189

Thank you for your answer Ramona

    To answer your questions :

    1) I first tried to install 7.2 over 7.1...

2)... then, as my problem occured, I did uninstall 7.1 and tried another installation... with no more success.

    3) I deleted the whole mozilla.org folder : nothing better !

    Fulget,

    This is what I suggest:

Ensure that Netscape, Quick Launch, and all Programs running in the background, are closed.

    Uninstall Netscape 7.1 using Add/Remove
    Next:
Delete the Netscape folder located here:
    C:\Program Files\Netscape
If you have Netscape Communicator installed, then only delete the:
    C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape folder

Next: Delete the 1.4f_2003062408 folder, which is located here:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\mozilla.org\GRE

This is important: REBOOT YOUR PC

Now try to install either Mozilla 1.7.3, or Netscape 7.2. Let us know if you are successful.

Unfortunately, I am still unsuccessful, with either Mozilla or Netscape.

    Fulget,

Are you receiving any errors when the installation hangs?

    Fulget,

What OS do you run? Do you by chance have a ATI RADEON graphics card? That too can cause the installation to hang. If you do have that graphics card, then try updating to the most current driver: http://mirror.ati.com/support/driver.html

Delete all your C:\WINDOWS\temp files. If that file is full, that could be hanging the install.

    Ramona,

I am on Windows XP. I do not have an ATI RADEON graphic card, but a Nivdia : the update of the driver didn't change anything to my situation. Deleting the Temp fils didn't produce more results...

    Fulget,

Try this, as reported by another XP user who had no success, even after removing the GRE folder:

Also, try deleting the compreg.dat file which is located here:
    C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape\components

    Fulget,

If you have no Netscape or Mozilla installed now, then look in C:\WINDOWS, find mozver.dat and delete the file. Do a "Find" in the Registry and delete ALL Netscape and Mozilla entries that are found.

Double check to ensure that your Netscape/Mozilla Program files have all been deleted, in addition to the C:\Program Files\Common Files\mozilla.org\GRE folder has been deleted. Ensure the C:\WINDOWS\temp directory is empty.

Navigate to the *.slt folder and delete:
    downloads.rdf
    history.dat
    Cache Folder
    XUL.mfl

If you are still unable to install either browser, then I have offered all the workarounds for this problem.

    Fulget,

When you try to install, is the install still hanging on Step 6.? Are you disabling your AntiVirus program, your Firewall, and any other program running in the background. In the Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL) only Systray and Explorer should be evident.

I have removed my firwall, my antivirus, and even that Windows XP sp.2 firewall, but everything is still hanging on step 6.

    Fulget,

Now this is driving me crazy! Are you installing from a CD, or a download from the Internet?

Download the Mozilla 1.7.3 Zipfile, 11 MB

    In C:\Program Files create a mozilla.org folder
Use your Zip program (WinZip, etc.) and unzip the 1.7.3 Zipfile to:
    C:\Program Files\mozilla.org

    Does this work?

    Fulget,

Woohooooo! Remember now that you can't access Webmail in the Mail & NG Accounts, nor do you have NIM (AIM). I'm so glad this worked, as I absolutely do not know what your problem is with Netscape!

To get your Profile from Netscape to Mozilla:
With Mozilla and Quick Launch closed
Open Windows Explorer and navigate to:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\
Remove the Mozilla folder to a temp location on your HD
(Create a backup folder for this purpose, e.g., C:\Backup)

Replace that folder with the Mozilla folder from your Netscape backup.

If you saved only the Profiles folder, then remove only the Profiles folder, not the Mozilla folder. Replace the Profiles folder with that of your Netscape Profiles.

Let me know if you need further help or have questions.
