Is there a way to prevent sp2 from installing using group policy? I have approx 500 laptops with autoupdates turned on. I am concerned about the firewall installing. I either need to stop sp2 from installing or disable the firewall using a group policy. I am also concerned about the amount of bandwidth used to download sp2 for 500 XP machines.

    Thanks

When I try to install it, I get an error message:

XPSP2BlockerTools.exe in not a valid Win 32 Application

On the main page, to the right under Download, there's "Related Resources" > More Information on this Tool. On that 2nd page, info on deployment tools and policies.

On what the problem is, not in a position to test right now, but it does sound like a DOS tool to be run from a Command box. Like all tools of this type, the .exe should be moved to the System32 folder.

I have it figured out. Thanks, but one question.

It changes the registry value, but under control panel system, it still it set up auto update. Should this screen change at all or is it just a registry value?

My understanding of this tool w/o having actually used it is that it only blocks the SP2 update and leaves all others.

So yes, it would only change a registry value.
