hi, I got a new laptop about a month ago, since then I've gotten about 3 or 4 BSODs.

The BSOD's started sometime in early January and it would always happen when my computer is in sleep mode so that after I wake my computer there would be a window that tells me the computer had shut down unexpectedly. So I did a fresh install on the 14th. And I got the report this morning that my computer had shut down unexpectedly.

This is what the box said this morning:

    Problem signature
    Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
    OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.768.3
    Locale ID: 1033

    Extra information about the problem
    BCCode: 9f
    BCP1: 00000004
    BCP2: 00000258
    BCP3: 853CED48
    BCP4: 82D3CB24
    OS Version: 6_1_7600
    Service Pack: 0_0
    Product: 768_1
    Bucket ID: MEMORY_CORRUPTION_ONE_BIT_LARGE

    I'm running 32-bit Windows 7 Home Premium
    programs I installed:
    Firefox
    Avast 5
    iTunes
    CCleaner
    Open Office
    Foxit Reader
    Quicktime
    Skype

What's the problem (or how do I find out)?
    Thanks!

I downloaded Memtest86+ 4.00 and unzipped with with WinRAR, then I used Daemon Tools Lite to mount it since I don't have a blank cd. Then when I run it, it says there is a "Error in Command Line." What do I need to do? Thanks.

Not certain what is wrong there. What is throwing up the error? It has been a while since I ran Memtest, but I am pretty certain it starts running straight from boot.
Did you change the boot order to boot from cd first?

The only satisfactory way of testing RAM is to test the installed RAM in various configurations. If you have a single module swap it around the slots. If you have a pair of modules run each one singly, swapping between slots; then run them in pairs swapping between pairs of slots. If you have 2 sets of matched modules do not get them mixed up.

If you want to use a memory checker Windows 7 has the Windows Memory Diagnostic tool built in to the OS ....

Orb > type Memory or Windows Memory Diagnostic into the Search box - Windows Memory Diagnostic will appear under the listed programs at the top of the list.

As I posted this is not conclusive. However as the laptop is new switching memory modules around may invalidate the warranty, especially as one of the pair is likely to be inaccessible without serious dismantling.

The BCCode: 9f translates to ....
There should be a Memory.dmp file in C:\Windows

See if you can find it and run it through BlueScreenView
Post the drivers indicated or use the Snipping tool to take a screenshot and upload it to a photohosting site and post the URL here.

Do the same for the Blue Screen - if a driver is listed on that screen post the details.

I can see and open the minidump folder in C:\windows but there is nothing inside the folder. I also did a search of memory.dmp on my computer and it found nothing. Nothing shows up on BlueScreenView either.

I think the reason I can't find it is because I used CCleaner, which cleaned out the minidump folder (that's a default setting).

OK - I would imagine you will get another BSOD shortly so steer clear of CCleaner for the moment or uncheck that function.

It happened again last night. Here are three screenshots. The first is Blue Screen Viewer and the two filenames highlighted in gray (I don't know the meaning of that, but you probably do). The second and third screenshots are of the properties (double clicking on the gray area) of the first and second highlighted item, respectively. Thanks!

I downloaded and installed SeaTools (the only thing listed that did diagnostics stuff). And it doesn't detect my hard drive even though SIW detected a Seagate hard drive. I did a rescan on Seatools and still nothing shows up.

I found the DOS version and downloaded it. Is there a way to run it from Daemon tools? I don't have any blank cds.

Post #14 - do you have Microsoft .NET Framework v2.0 installed - it is a requirement.

Post #15 - I would not think so - the idea is to produce a bootable CD to run the diagnostics on boot - before Windows loads.

Yes, I have Microsoft .NET Framework v2.0 installed. I downloaded it and ran the installer for it and it said that my OS already had it.

I will try to get some blank cds.

I am concerned that the Windows version does not see the drive - the software is compatible with Vista so should work with 7.

Unbfortunately I cannot check that out as I have no Seagate drives.
