I am trying to burn data and or music to a CD. The system recognizes that I have inserted a blank CD. I receive the option window and am able to go the application, i.e. Media player, iTunes, InterVideo Disk Master, Nero. I am able to select the files and then when I select the write/simulation window in Disk Master I receive the "Action to take" window. This window does not have any data. It only has the "?" bubble and the "proceed" and "erase" buttons are grayed. The "cancel" button is the only thing selectable. I recieved simular responses with the other applications. I have removed the applications, the device, installed SP3 for XP and reinstalled the application, used several different cd's. I believe all of my applications/drivers are up to date. I have searched the web site and have not been able to find a fix. Please help with any other suggestions.

My pc specs are listed in my profile. Should I add them somewhere else? I have a NEC ND-3540A it is a DVD+/-RW DL drive. I use Memorex CD-R, CD-RW, Maxell DVD-R, CD-R music and I have tried an HP CD-R and CD-RW also. Hope that this is helpful. But my software worked just last month and the only thing that I recall was loaded was auto updates to CA, XP and iTunes.

You have a lot of burning programs. I suspect that one or more are conflicting/interfering with each other. From that, it might not be a matter of uninstalling and maybe reinstalling programs, but resetting the burning system, now that it is "stuck ", it could remain that way until it is reset.

I think your burning programs are fighting over control of the burner or one has "jammed up" the burning system.

You can reset the Upper and Lower Filters for the drive, but it does not seem to be the symptoms described by MS, let me know if you would like to try. Otherwise, I would start uninstalling the burning programs until I could find which one might be causing the problem (although I see you say you have "removed" them).

It would be nice to test the burner in another computer or boot to another operating system to test it, just to make sure it can still actually burn a disk. (Can you use Windows disk burning system? You don't seem to mention it.)

I am a little bit confused by your description, you say you have Nero, what version are you using.
If you start up Nero Express for normal burning jobs you simply import the files that you want to burn into Nero by clicking 'Add" and this gives you the options from where you want to import the files or folders, when you see the files in Nero click Burn.
There is also a very good and basic version of a free burning program available from AShampoo it is very simple and very effective should your Nero be not working properly.
