Resolved WIN10 Blue Screen

    I have a HP dc7800 desktop that gets a blue screen about 3 minutes after cold Startup. It says "Driver Power State Failure" and requires a Restart. How do I fix?

    Have you tried updating your Graphics driver?
    Right click Start > Device Manager > Display Adapter

    I suggest that you check for updated graphics drivers directly at HP rather than rely on Windows - if indeed you have the latest driver try uninstalling it and rebooting - Windows should reinstall the driver.

    Apparently other factors apart from drivers can cause this issue - see ....

    HP does not list the graphics driver and the the other forum reference is for a laptop and the power setting choices are different than a desktop.
    At least my problem only happens sometimes only once a day at startup.

    Have you tried a "Rollback of driver" ?
    Or a Reset to a date prior to problem?

    I did a complete restore from backup and the problem went away. After a week it is back only occasionally.

    Are you using inboard graphics?
    Can you try a graphics card?

    Yes, graphics comes from the mother board. I can try a plug in card, but since the problem went away on it's own, I will wait to see if it comes back.

    I have not found the direct cause, but since I have been turning the computer on 10 minutes before using it, to let the computer fully digest startup, the blue screen rarely happens.

    Sorry Ken I've been busy with family problems. Your problem suggests to me that you may have a poor connection. I would power down the comp and check all connections by disconnecting and wiping where possible with a microfibre cloth then refit connection. Make sure you are grounded and that the AC power is switched off!!!
    If it seems to work when you allow it to warm up before use - suggests connection poor somewhere.

    Since the computer doesn't tell me which driver has a problem and where it stores the data it collected, I am wondering where I should start cleaning. I am concerned that if I take too much apart at once I could break something. Thanks.

    If you Google for 'Critical Kernel-Power 41' a number of solutions are suggested, e.g. ....

    Fix – Kernel Power 41 Error

    As the Driver Updater 2017 is approved by Microsoft it may be worth running that to determine if it is a driver issue - Disclaimer - I have no experience of that software.

    OTOH it is a simple task to follow the Power Settings recommended and see if that resolves the issue.

    Lots of ideas there, Thanks.
    I tried to update the Trusted Platform Module 1.2 driver and it required other software installation that crashed the computer. Glad I have backups. Do I really need that feature?

    The Trusted Platform Module 1.2 driver is probably not needed unless you have encrypted your hard drive - that is the impression I get from our friend Google.
