I have a Windows 7 Home Premium computer and have had to buy a new keyboard for it which works fine except for not producing the expected characters from one or two keys, for example; when trying to get the @ symbol by the normal 'shift + @' key it produces the quote (') symbol which one would normally get by not using 'shift' key. The 'shift' key works fine for other purposes, in fact when this new keyboard is attached to my other PC using Windows 7 Professional it works perfectly as expected. My only serious attempt to remedy this so far is as follows:- Control Panel - Region & Language - Keyboard & Language - Change Keyboard. At this point I am expected to select a language setting from the drop down menu but there is nothing in the menu so where do I go from here ?. Having Googled the problem I can find some suggestions centred around pressing various Control , Shift and Alt keys simultaneously but obviously have got nowhere with that. Suggestions please, before I tear out the last of my already thin hair.

What does the first tab called FORMAT say? Does it say English USA?

The FORMAT was showing English (United Kingdom) so tried changing to English USA but still nothing available to select under CHANGE KEYBOARD and problem still exists.

Advent C112 is a keyboard and mouse set - correct? Keyboard is a K112?
Is the Keyboard shown in Device manager?
Your system details show XP as your OS - does this need updating to W7?

Label on Keyboard quotes model as C112 but, yes it was bought as keyboard & mouse set.
    Keyboard is shown Device Manager.
System details probably do show as XP so yes, it does need updating to W7. Have just tried to do this but haven't found the way in to do this as yet. Thanks for interest.

At top right of your Thread > open Menu (small stack of pancakes) > Your Account > Preferences > Make the changes and SAVE before exit.
Can you update Drivers for keyboard in Device Manager?

Thank you to everybody for interest and replies. In the end I took the drastic step of reinstalling via recovery disc and everything behaves as it should now.
